Re: The study sounds plausible

Sadly no. Most "two women" porn aimed at guys has two straight women it it pretending to be gay, and after they do their routines for the camera, a guy saunters in and does both of them. (To show the "Natural" order of things of course)

I've hung out in a few Lesbian bars in my day, and these guys come rolling in thinking they are going to pick up two women who will go home and perform for them then show them a three way. Its always fun to see if they leave in horror before they get tossed out on their ear.

It seems that a lot of Lesbians don't meet their hetrosexist standards of approved appearance "IE: Bleach blondes with rubber boobs" REAL lesbian porn tends to leave straight men both turned off and a bit threatened.

Re: Braindead idiots trying to store their digital world on their device.

Must be nice to afford a bottomless mobile data contract and use it constantly. 32 gig is nothing. My 160 iPod is still in constant use.

I deal with media in half terabyte blocks. This is NOT practical or sane for cloud storage. Like I'm going to be waiting for 60 gig of music to move up and down an internet connection. "and I'm not even mentioning video"

ONE of my Macs has four terabytes, how the hell is CLOUD going to replace that?

A lot of us no matter the OS war want NOTHING to do with cloud storage of our media. My Media is NOBODY'S business. And a lot of my music and video is from MY source material. Wait till the media companies start grabbing on to cloud storage and demanding receipts to see what music you are "authorized" for. That's what the cloud is really for, making sure your media is where it can be seen, controlled and most of all marketed.

Dana W
Meh

You all keep forgetting.

Its not a computer replacement for US, its a computer replacement for the unwashed masses, people who want e-mail, Facebook, Netflix and web browsing and that's about it.

I've said it again and again and again, if you read this site you are NOT the market! If you can cobble your own box together you are NOT the market. If you are comfortable installing your own OS or multi-booting you are NOT the market.

I have an iPad Mini, and I like it a great deal, "mind you I didn't actually PAY for it" but its not going to replace my computers. Its just nice to run my smartphone apps without squinting through bifocals. Its what my Nintendo was 10 years ago.

On the other hand I help a lot of older and disabled people with their computers and for 99% of them an iPad is all they need. Again, for seven out of ten of the home users I have to support, an iPad is all the "computer" they need, and pretty much all they can understand.

Since it does not effect me or anyone I know with an iPhone I shall fee free to ignore it.

"The biggest reason for this update I expect is to kill the new iOS jailbreak that should be releasing soon.. So its staying away from my iPad."

Re: 13 inch MacBook Pro

My MBP was $1200. + $100 for the terabyte hard drive and + $120 for the 16 gig of ram I added later. I get an easy 8+ hours of battery life web browsing and a keyboard you can actually type on, not a novelty soft cover. And I can easily add Windows anytime I like should I ever find a use for it.

The point is I have as much in my MacBook Pro as anyone would have this tablet. And that's not acceptable. The Surface is too much money for a computer that is too limited. This is a niche product at

And I'll get thumbed down. But a touchscreen laptop is just dumb, And so far sales seem to bear me out on this.

I have to agree that kids are being over-sexualized. But blaming this solely on the US is just buck passing. This is a world problem.

Apple rubbishes rumours of iPhone for the masses

Dana W

That's fine for you, and for me. We know what we are looking for and what we are buying. If you read this site, this is not a problem you have. (And often as not a problem you understand) For people who live and breathe computers its very hard to internalize that to a lot of people the computer is an impenetrable magic box.

But I've run into this time and time again here. Most people on El Reg keep forgetting we are NOT the "normal people" sadly the vast majority of the unwashed masses don't even know what questions to ask. They ask a friend who is "good with computers" or go by what someone said on TV.

Ask a few random non tech people what CPU their phone has. Most will give you a blank stare. Ask resolution, ask memory. You might as well be speaking Sanskrit.

And yes our warranty situation in the US is not as good as it is across the pond, but if you live in a major city, repair/replace on an iPhone is usually same day. Try to go to most shops to get same day on your Android in the US, and a teenager who would rather you leave will tell you to "Send it to the manufacturer" This is one place Apple is currently ahead of the game over Android, and its one of its stronger selling points. You play Apple a big wad of cash and its their problem. I'm not saying its the best solution, only a very popular one. Especially to people who's only idea of whats wrong is "it stopped working"

Dana W
Meh

Its a tough choice either way. I'll try for a more partsian reply.

I stand by what I said. and I've run both. They are close enough that no matter which one I use I miss part of the other.

As to appliance VS computer. Ok, I'll pump Android a bit.

My Nexus 7 was very much more a computer than my iPad, I could use multiple apps to do things that iOS has ONE answer for, and no alternative. I could pick my media players, I had browser choice. It seemed I could pick a lot more in actual utilities. And I HAD a real FILE BROWSER! That I really miss. Its far more flexible than the iPad. It's much more like having a small computer. I enjoyed it and I'd not be adverse to owning anther.

The iPad is once again, more like having a TV set. "Or a really big iPod" You turn it on it works, its no prying in the innards policy makes it reliable and idiot proof. But the constraints are chafing. Inability to load some kind of files without playing "Mother May I with iTunes" gets old. Like side loading books with Drobox, On the other hand as a media playback device I like it better, and I prefer it for web browsing. And some of my favorite games don't seem to have android ports "yet"

I'm not against he Android. I wish I could have kept it, but I couldn't justify having money in two tablets. If I had not gotten the iPad as an Xmas present I'd still have it. And I tell the people who ask my advice their options and why they both have their good points.

So there, a positive Android argument? Better? Hopefully I clarified myself a bit.
