China chokes exports of semiconductor secret sauces gallium and germanium

Kaufman

The only surprise here is that they've held out for so long before retaliating against yankee illegal trade practices against China. This is very telling that China has exhausted every effort to try and resolve this issue amicably. The US had always know what China is capable of doing. Yet, they doubled down to call their bluff and now we see a taste of what they can do.

They also sit on more than $6 trillion in foreign reserves which I assume they will wait for the right moment to dump. They will not be saving us during the next financial crisis created by the US.

Taiwan asks US if it could chill out on the anti-China rhetoric

Americans shooting themselves in the foot again...

Taiwan will eventually be forced to side with China and pushed by the US no less. China is the second largest consumer of chips after Taiwan. The US is only half the customer compared to China and is looking to become independent of Taiwanese chip production.

Re: I think the only way the US can ensure victory ..

Even North Korea could turn the US into a glass parking lot. What do you think China and Russia would do to the US and allies? China's missile technology is also bleeding edge.

US to Japan: We'll help you make chips. Now about that China ban...

America turtles in fear of China and takes friends down the same path

Instead of competing the US spends all of it's efforts to impede China. This is not only desperate and cowardly but this forces China to accelerate their development. Less competition for the US means less innovation.

US-China chip cold war? It's only helping the Middle Kingdom, silicon makers warn

10 years from now China will dominate in both chip design and manufacturing. Once they master chip manufacturing, NVDA, INTC, Samsung and AAPL will disappear.

Re: Sanctions

I think Canada is just collaborating. In fact I'm sure that Google has reached out to all US allies to help them stay ahead of China.

Kaufman

Re: Sanctions

Another great example of the classic American ignorance. No wonder they're a failed state.

That would be the PRISM program by NSA. It gives the US unrestricted access to all data from any US and friends companies. Think Google, FB, Apple, Dell, IBM(already caught spying in China and likely many other countries)........etc.

Re: At last some common sense -- but will politicians listen?

Stopping Iran and NK from going nuclear would've been easier. If the US would've stopped traveling half way around the world and parking their carriers at their front door to intimidate them and conducting military invasion exercises with their neighbors this wouldn't have happened. Now that NK has the ability to send the US into oblivion, they've magically stopped venturing anywhere near NK. In fact, aside from some minor propaganda pieces everything has gone quiet. Which is bad for US weapons sales so don't expect it to last long.

Ukraine will be the next victim in another US led confrontation with Russia.

Good for China. This is another great example of the US shooting themselves in the foot, again. Within a matter of months after the US has sanctioned China with preventing them from procuring equipment to fabricate the amount of new Chinese semiconductor conductor companies have tripled. I'll give Intel, Nvidia and AMD about 15 years max before collapsing. Of course that will include everything else related except perhaps chip design. Hard to imagine what comes after 3nm.

Huawei could have snooped on the Dutch prime minister's phone calls thanks to KPN network core access

More fake news

Pretty sad when you have to use adverbs like, "potentially" to describe what may or may not have happened more than a decade ago to smear Huawei. I trust Huawei far more than any company from American allied countries such as the 14 eyes which unsurprisingly, Netherlands just happens to be one of them. It's also not blind trust Huawei has proven to be far more transparent than any other company on the planet. So it's of no surprise that they are still churning enough profits despite American sanctions to remain as the largest telecommunications company in the world.

Re: Which People ?

Surely, we already knew that they could not be trusted long before Snowden. How many millions of Iraqis did the US coalition kill based on a lie?!?

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro would be the best Android flagship on the market – were it not for the US-China trade war

Kaufman

Re: "In fairness to Huawei, this isn't its fault."

You just sound like the typical Trump sheep making accusations without a single shred of evidence. There are no other companies on the planet more transparent than Huawei. They literally bent over to prove that they were clean and honest. Don't worry though they still are by far the largest Telco and conduct business with over 170 countries. I wonder why that is.

Re: A Google free phone?

I hate to say this but Spotify probably has the biggest selection of music out there. Unfortunately, they don't stream in high resolution. If you're interested in quality streaming you should consider Amazon especially if you buy from them a lot. The best is tidal but they have a limited selection for me, probably still good enough for most. I just happen to enjoy everything including foreign music which is where they lack most. This is only important is you're an audiophile or just an enthusiast who simply enjoys quality music, which is what I am.

Best phone ever

Hands down fastest phone and best camera in the history of smartphones! Picked up mine for $1580 so it's a little pricey, but very exclusive. I can't imagine paying any where near that for an apple or Samsung.

Re: Benefit

The irony here is that most people don't even know that much of Ericsson's engineering and manufacturing operations are in China.

Uncle Sam punishes China for abusing Uyghur Muslims – by blacklisting top AI surveillance companies

The US has the worst human rights record in the world. What happened to Iraq? The US destroyed the whole country executed their leader and destabilized the entire region. Let's not forget the raping and killing of millions of civilians. That makes the US a terrorist state.

Kaufman

The picture shows the Muslims are openly practicing their religion and wearing their traditional clothes. I can confirm that is still the case today as I was just there for two weeks while traveling to China for 3 months. Xinjiang also happens to be an autonomous region where the Uyghur language holds official status. Best to go see for yourself if you're really interested in the truth.

It's dangerous to go alone! Take Uncle Sam and the Netherlands: Duo join naval task force into China's backyard

Kaufman

The Chinese builds more war ships than the entire navy of the UK every year. Not even the US would dare send a carrier group to poke the dragon. China could simply dispatch a few fishing boats and a couple of their gargantuan coast guard cutters to block the Brits and then they'll be forced to turn around in humiliation.

Get out of Huawei, it's an avalanche of news from everyone's favourite Chinese bogeyman

Kaufman

There is no scorn, just a lot of smear campaigning by the US and the five eyes. Otherwise, Huawei remains to be largest telecom company by far and the only one with real 5G technology.

I would have to agree. If Cisco even had the technology to compete with Huawei they would've been give the green light automatically without any vetting.

Huawei CEO defiant on security claims, vows to be so good, 'no market can keep us away'

"“For such serious decisions like a ban, you need proof,” Arne Schoenbohm, told news weekly Spiegel, confirming that the BSI had no such evidence." This coming from Germany's BSI chief speaks volumes. Germany, is by far the most significant market in the EU. Unfortunately, you would never see this in any of the five eyes news media. Since there are no other alternatives to Huawei's technology as the next closest competitor is about 12 months away from catching the UK will not be banning Huawei as they're already in the advanced stages of completion. Canada may or may not how to US pressure is difficult to say after the trade war dispute, but other than a couple of countries banning them Huawei will still be installing $100s of billions worth of 5G networks around the world . Not having that technology will put every other country at a disadvantage.

Nobody in China wants Apple's eye-wateringly priced iPhones, sighs CEO Tim Cook

Kaufman

When the middle class was beginning to grow rapidly in China just over 10 years ago, there was a shortage of iPhones. Back then they were more than happy to part with a $1000 or more each, but now there are so many choices, that they've just become more savvy. They consume one third of the value of all luxury items on the planet, so the cost is not the issue.
