AI gets carded, China and US agree on robot wars, Amazon claims Rekognition is just fine

Spectating war

So if there won't be any humans in future wars does that mean war could b monitized as a spectator event?

Accused hacker Lauri Love tries to retrieve Fujitsu lappie and other gear from Britain's FBI in court

Wonder what encryption he was using... 5 years and they still didn't crack it??

Big trouble Down Under as Australian MPs told to reset their passwords amid hack attack fears

C'mon its not a hack

Ok people sorry to quell your fears .. there is no hack here!

It's just China checking in to make sure they're getting their money's worth out of our pollies.

Wednesday: Facebook sparks another privacy brouhaha. Thursday: Facebook axes Iranian disinfo bods. Fancy that!

The non-story story

And so the obvious non-story here is it's ok to be predatory and/or exploit teens if you're a corporation making money off it.

Are law enforcement or higher ever going to step in to situations like these? Unlikely methinks.

Did you know? Monday was Data Privacy Day. Now it's Tuesday. Back to business as usual!

Re: Data Privacy Day?

" Evidently they kept it pretty close to their chest."

Despite your statement there's absolutely no excuse not to hack it, swat it, track it, infect it, impersonate it or ddos it so it can be monitized, which is actually the point of anything and everything now.

RIP 2019-2019: The first plant to grow on the Moon? Yeah, it's dead already, Chinese admit

Cotton, really?

So yeah I know if I was looking to explore building a base on the moon then I'd be taking along an inedible plant that also consumers a sh!t ton of water.

Just sayin'

Insiders! The good news: Windows 10 Sandbox is here for testing. Bad news: Microsoft has already broken it

China's loose Chang'e: Probe lands on far side of the Moon in science first, says state media

Is that photo at the top of the article supposed to be the dark side of the moon? Because it looks awfully bright there. Perhaps the Chinese managed to bring along a 150 million lumen light to get a good pic or two...

Memes, messengers, and missiles: From Twitter to chat apps and weapons, security is ho-ho-hosed this Xmas

Good to see you pronounced Nukular correctly!

American bloke hauls US govt into court after border cops 'cuffed him, demanded he unlock his phone at airport'

Re: Just say "Yes Sir"

It's attitudes like this that actually leads to things becoming worse... because no one stands up for their rights authorities keep on pushing the boundaries. By the time you feel compelled to say something it'll already be too late.

Britain approved £2.5m of snooping kit exports to thoroughly snuggly regime in Saudi Arabia

Won't somebody please think of the oil!

Delicious, yummy oil!!!

Pencil manufacturers rejoice: Oz government doesn't like e-voting

Nothing else matters

The mechanism for voting matters little.

There are 2 incumbent choices, both as bad as each other.

If you think your vote actually counts then just look at how the last 5 or so prime ministers got up. They weren't elected by the majority of citizens.

Wow, what a lovely early Christmas present for Australians: A crypto-busting super-snoop law passes just in time

Watch out for an incoming "update" to your phone...

MIT to Oz: Crypto-busting laws risk banning security tests

Daniel thanks for giving it a go mate. It's not your fault. Our inept and corrupt politicians don't believe in logic, only faith, which of course can make miracles happen which I guess is what you've been experiencing. Best of luck on the other side of the world though, the faith could be spreading...

Google swallows up DeepMind Health and abolishes 'independent board'

Re: Be worried, very worried

"Google is Evil and they are probably coming for me, you and everyone to assimilate into their Borg."

If google were like the borg from star trek I probably wouldn't mind, but google is far worse than the borg ever were

Now Europe wants a four-million-quid AI-powered lie detector at border checkpoints

I see the future

2018: "fingerprinting, palm vein scanning and face matching have been carried out"

2020: gait, eye movement and behavioural characterstics have been carried out

2022: posture, DNA recognition and anal resiliency have been carried out

2024: brain pattern, genital fingerprinting and IQ testing have been carried out

FFS when will this sh!t end???

Swedes grumbling about Apple Store in their park are lucky – in Toronto, Google eats all your data

"The question is, will this square have rounded corners?"

No but it does have a notch

'Pure technical contributions aren’t enough'.... Intel commits to code of conduct for open-source projects

Lame duck

Wow this is such a lame duck move coming from Intel after all their prior attempts at pulling the wool over consumers eyes ... specifically thinking of recent attempts such as 28-core with "forgotten" water chiller and of course their attempts to one again deceive consumers via the core i9 benchmark fiasco with Principled Technologies.

Perhaps we need all companies to sign up to a "Consumer Code of Respect", not that it would do much to change their behaviour.

BTW In general I support being respectful of our fellow human beings.

Re: what.

"rather discriminatory against those who lack interpersonal skills?"

If you have any sort of social phobia, or you are nearly anywhere on the autistic spectrum this is highly discriminatory

SQLite creator crucified after code of conduct warns devs to love God, and not kill, commit adultery, steal, curse...

More of the same

I'm waiting for a pastafarian (spelling?) compliant code of conduct that i can really sink my teeth into
