Science says death metal fans delightful and intelligent people, great at dinner parties

'Science says' ...

77 of 79 scientists (95%) agreed with a pole on AGW/CC; 'gave the correct answer' and kept their jobs.

That's actually where the official 95% came from.

The death metal fans I've met were bankers from Germany.

Convivial and perfectly nice chaps ... but I was sharing the room with them to go see 'Prince'.

Not really my thing, Nihilism.

XP still flying here ... and I'm building a Vista system.

I have, let's see: 8 functional PC's. This one we're on now is XP SP3. I have a BSOD about three-times a year. No more and that's when I overload it, in 32-bit with only 3Gb mem allowance, of course. My 'event viewer' has only 2 error msgs from a printer server & a non-connected ODN (StarTrek for) Fibre-Channel. Never been hacked by SpeCtre or etc. And I have this PC on 364 days, upto 12hrs/day -¹

You get to this point, by making all possible mistakes and never repeating them, and a fact that at age 47 I studied for a Bsc in Software-Development lends nothing to me other than a keen instinct.

I have 64-bit SuSe Linux too of course to run on the 8Gb of memory but that's a horse of a different colour.

Hands off my Win7 you freakin' fondlers, I will never fly your Win10 Spyware. Posted on WinXP SP3..

And what of BEAGLE II ...?

I got an email from Colin Pilinger, founder of the UK's little MARS project.

I don't have it here but I kind of feel I made a connection with the nice man.

It wasn't so long after this, that he left us.

I still think we should aim to get Beagle going; since the Americans found it a couple years back.

Can it be reached and for good-wills' sake reactivated?

I think it's a cool idea, anyway.

'He couldn't have been flying a drone over Gatwick, he was fitting windows at the time!'

Yeah, it may not have been he but who's out fitting windows between 9pm and Midnight?

I suppose that would infer extra-spectacular eyesight and perhaps the deployment of robots?

Reinvest in a small nuclear powered engines program. NOW!

Surely, a sign that the NASA explorations & others around the world may need to re-investigate or indeed reinvest in small nuclear powered engines. Nuclear powered rocket motors could surely, now, in this age of extreme Health and Safety margins be built which will pass the tests of endurance, resilience and safety. The USA had a huge R&D program in the very early 1960's thru early 70's; which endured the Kennedy Presidency.

Project Nerva and the Phoebus nuclear-rocket motors, just by example.

There was much done, with several motors from a handful of major engineering players at that time,

I would revisit it, without hesitancy.

We are unnecessarily, now, holding ourselves back from the very urgent business of exploration of space, both near-field and deep.

The long & short of it is, intelligently & ethically motivated humans must succeed in space and stop tinkering. Start taking bold-steps. And stop talking a strong space-program down. NOW!

Read the History.

Stay Calm and Carry-on Browsing.

So ..?

I still use XP on 6 of my home's 9 PC's. Ah, you think, now you know who I am: I'm the guy you met on Archer's seat Edinburgh Tuesday putting the world to right on top of one of Scotland's 400M year-old volcano stumps. It's me alright. I divert, I wander, I meander ...

XP is OK, Dirt cheap on eBay. Still activates, and runs. The scare stories are for those running businesses whose data could theoretically be hacked due to the rather convoluted hack weaknesses of this legacy OS.

And Microsoft Essentials Security/Antivirus scanner still runs with weekly updates, though one has to do a manual (from website) download of the latest pattern-file(s).

Don't worry about it. Nobody Manic Captain Painwaring. It's going to be OK .. for me.

And if you listen to my lifetime of experience and advice ... it maybe will be OK for you too.

What else is there to know?

This is the way.

This is the Dao.

RUSSIA covertly acquiring information about Italian Marine Border security?

Interesting perhaps, in that the ITALIAN Marine Militaire are likely involved in overseeing their EUROpean guarded sea-frontiers vis-a-viz SYRIAN (or other) refugee/asylum-seekers, legal or not.

Why would RUSSIA be interested in acquiring covert information about Italian Marine Border security?

Like a MORON, touched for the very first time ....

This is REALLY a warning about the dangers of a CASHLESS economy.

Use it or lose it; cash that is.

As for the pun.

Try MASSIVE OSCILLATORS RADIATING OBJECTIONABLE NOISE SIGNALS as a euphemism for the eastern EU and sometimes Northern UK factory based High-Frequency Power oscillators used in Wood and Plastic factories for quick fixing industrial Glues. I came up with that one, after I found a discarded MORON down my local scrap-yard in Yorkshire. I disassembled it and built a legal limit Amateur Radio HF amplifier from some of the parts. I mean high power, like several Kilowatts these MORONS.

Enjoy your cashless weekend ...
