Royal Bank of Scotland IT contractor ban sparks murmurs of legal action

TolerantViews

Depends how long those contractors can live without a salary/dividend versus the priority of the banks projects. Some people need to work to survive although I imagine there is a fair amount of deferred dividends needed to be drawn down first. I imagine the Indian outsourcers will be winners.

Fair Tax

This is not a pay cut, this is the contractor having to pay the same taxes as the permie employee sitting next to them. Same job, same taxes. If you like the option to still roam and take up other employment there is nothing stopping you. Perhaps someone will up your rate, from what I see that is not likely to happen. Lots of public sector IT contractors ejected to the private sector, finally fair taxes are catching up with all contractors. Having worked on both sides I think equality of tax is a fair outcome.

UK space comes to an 'understanding' with Australia as Brexit looms

Re: RE: Mooseman

The vote was to leave the EU, nothing more, nothing less. Leaving the EU means leaving any levers of control over the UK by the EU as a starting point. Everything else is negotiable. That's why the UK red lines exist, it's about control.

The only way is up, baby: IBM UK sales down, profit down, headcount down

There is really no longer any reason to work for IBM. Poor service backed only by CIO's who don't know how to run their own IT. If your IT leadership has IBM in, start to get out, your management do not know what they are doing other than lengthening their own large salaries by a bit.

Blighty: If EU won't let us play at Galileo, we're going home and taking encryption tech with us

Re: Fucking Brexit

If the EU has to punish people who leave what are they doing to the people that stay? Seems incomprehensible that leavers need punishment because surely they are leaving the good place? Think about it. It's best we leave, the kick up the backside will propel us into new, exciting and prosperous beginnings. Our own space agency, using our own encryption monitored from islands that we manage. Looking forward to it. The Euro will eventually make the EU implode. Best leave early and deal with the downturn from outside.
