Honor MagicBook 14: Nice keyboard and ports aplenty – but with a webcam forever fixed on all of your chins

Torchy

Parent Company is.......

Well since it is Chinese and we all know where that virus came from I will not be buying one never mind any products Chinese in the future.

Our whole office is now committed to giving Chinese goods a miss for the foreseeable future.

Join in and source locally if possible, if not then learn to do without.

Hey, China. Maybe you should have held your hackers off for a bit while COVID-19 ravaged the planet. Just a suggestion

Torchy

Do not buy Chinese made goods.

That is why when we get over lockdown we all need to send a huge message to China by not buying Chinese goods.

British Airways and Marriott UK data protection fines deferred again as coronavirus shutdown hits business

Torchy

They will be forgiven.

This is the start of the process to have the fines cancelled.

They will be told to make sure it does not happen again and I am sure that "lessons will be burned".

Bose shouts down claims that it borked noise cancellation firmware to sell more headphones

Torchy

Give Bose a miss.

Upon reading this I have now struck Bose from my list of preferred suppliers.

When will they learn that this is actually classed as criminal damage in the UK?

Remember that clinical trial, promoted by President Trump, of a possible COVID-19 cure? So, so, so many questions...

Torchy

Trump !

I would not trust him if he told me that tomorrow is the day after today.

Post Office burned £100m in UK taxpayer cash on Horizon IT scandal legal fees, MPs told

Torchy

Managers Specials.

Time for a few offending Managers to be punished for failing to investigate thoroughly.

At least one should have shadowed a Post Mistress/Master FOR A FEW DAYS !

The problem with the software would then have become apparent.

Computer, deactivate self-destruct system requirement, says Sonos... were it on a starship in space, and not a smart-speaker slinger

Torchy

Read it here and bought a Sony.

Thanks for the heads up but too late...……

I read about this a few weeks back and because of your article did not even consider Sonos when shopping for a speaker two weeks ago.

Came away with a great sounding Sony though.

I would never consider a Sonos product in future, they are blacklisted.

Feel sorry for those whose old Sonos products have been bricked by Sonos.

Starliner snafu could've been worse: Software errors plague Boeing's Calamity Capsule

Torchy

SSW Mode.

Boeing has Shit Software Writers engaged in head in the clouds mode.

We now have a new term at work that goes by the statement of "doing a Boeing" when things go titsup.

Google Chrome to block file downloads – from .exe to .txt – over HTTP by default this year. And we're OK with this

Torchy

Goodbye.

Then it will be goodbye Google, it was nice knowing you but you turned into a big sister and outgrown your usefulness.

Torchy

Sacoolas moment............

It is that Sacoolas moment where the UK must tell the US "no" just as they told the UK government when we asked for extradition proceedings to start in the case of Anne Sacoolas who killed a young motorcyclist in the UK by driving on the wrong side of the road.

Obviously the cable and/or the overland transmission equipment is not fit for purpose.

Boris celebrates taking back control of Brexit Britain's immigration – with unlimited immigration program

Torchy

Quitters need to suck this up.

This is just what the quitters did not vote for but they were warned and ignored the sensible folk.

The government will set to on cutting business "red tape" soon and one of its primary targets is the European Working Time Directive and its laws pertaining to statutory holiday pay. Kiss paid holiday time goodbye and as a bonus all business's will save 9% plus on costs on the wage bill.

Suck it up quitters, you are not going to get what you voted for.

Microsoft boffin inadvertently highlights .NET image woes by running C# on Windows 3.11

Torchy

Six floppy discs + 30 minutes = Nirvana.

I can remember installing Windows 3.11 on many machines at work using six floppies and around half an hour of time.

Typing c:\win used to bring it all to life.

I can say that up until 2018 my wife used the DOS version of Microsoft Money running on Windows 95 in her business until the Accountant requested that she move to a Sage product.

From what I can remember it ran within an early text editing program going by the name of QBasic.

Brit smart meter biz blamed Apple's iPhone 7 launch for its late taxes

Torchy

Football Clubs.

Why does HMRC do this to real businesses yet fail to apply this to the many football clubs in the UK that use tax owed to HMRC as their own to spend as they see fit.

Whenever a football club has gone titsup in the past they have all owed vast amounts of unpaid tax.

Come on HMRC, get your finger out and make them cough up.

Northern UK smart meter rollout is too slow, snarls MPs' committee

Torchy

Waste of money.

They are only as smart as the people that use them, that is if you check them constantly to track down wastage such as a light left on in the house.

The power companies tell you that they are free but they actually add £11/year to your electricity bill or £5.50 to combined usage bills to pay for them over the next ten years.

Bear in mind that they are not installed by qualified electricians, the installers have undergone a one week training course on how to install them.

Your household insurance states that if you have any electrical work done by an unqualified electrician then any fire or electrical failure is not covered by your policy.

That includes smart meter installations. There is a lady in the south of the UK who owns a burnt out shell of a home caused by a fire that started in the smart meter and neither her or the power company's insurance company will pay out to rebuild the property. This has been going on for over two years now.

Not just adhesive, but alcohol-resistant adhesive: Well done, Apple. Airpods Pro repairability is a zero

Torchy

Not buying these then.

I am so pleased that I have read this today as I was going to buy some of these this week.

You have saved me some money and the planet a small amount of landfill.

I am going to buy the much cheaper generic ones as it seems that Apple does not mean quality and longevity with this product.

Get in line, USA: Sweden reopens Assange rape allegations probe

Re: Just 13 minutes

Got to love those turbopumps that deaccelerate rapidly when the sh1t hits them.

We use small ones (100mm) so the fan blades can withstand the gas load but we did have a larger one (400mm) a while back that suffered bearing coolant loss and literally "threw a wobbler" at 60,000 rpm.

I was watching from a short distance whilst the rest of the maintenance crew proved that five bodies could ̶s̶h̶i̶t̶ fit through one small door simultaneously.

Torchy

BBC News Content.

I was unable to view any BBC News website video footage this year whilst on holiday in Crete.

Just a message informing me that "this content is not available in your country".

I am from the UK so what is the problem?

Plenty of adverts though on the "advert free" BBC News website.

I accessed Sky News for the fortnight I was in Crete and guess what, I now access Sky News every day instead of the BBC.

That went well didn't it !

We asked for your Fitbit horror stories and, oh wow, did you deliver: Readers sync their teeth into 'junk' gizmos

Torchy

My wife has the same problem with her $hitbit.

It is only a few months old and she has had enough of it not functioning as it should.

It is going back to the shop where we bought it from and she is going to demand her money back as it is not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act (UK).

Under UK law they have to refund her.

She is then going to buy a Polar.

One in five mobile phones shipped abroad are phoney – report

Torchy

13 Amp Fuses.

They failed to mention that we in the UK are now being flooded with counterfeit 13 Amp mains plug fuses that do not "blow" when an overload occurs. Some of them do actually "blow" but do so explosively completely shattering the plug and showering the immediate area with hot sparks that could in theory start a fire.

US Customs sued for information about border phone searches

Torchy

My policy is to never go there.

My policy is to never go there, I have been told that the country is fantastic but is spoiled by the Americans.

Well you can keep it as I will not go there not even when requested to do so by my company on the previous five occasions when they needed me to go.
