To be fair to Vista

I remember when XP first came out there were lots of broken applications, dodgy driver support and at the time it was a real resource hog compared to the extremely nippy Win98 and didn't really offer much over Win2K beyond booting more quickly.

So I do wonder if maybe in 3 years time or so we'll all be quite happy with Vista and have forgotten all the problems at the moment. I think the answer could be yes, were it not for the DRM infections which cause file copies/deletions to take forever etc. I do wonder if that is really a step too far and it will push more and more people to XP/OSX/Linux.

It's a bit like the PS3 really, MS have been the market leader for so long, it's hard to tell if the momentum of being the market leader means Vista will succeed despite being crap or if this really is the turning point, especially with so many apps now becoming web based making the OS less and less pivotal.

If you can't use PECL

If you can't use PECL I highly recommend the FPDF class here: http://www.fpdf.org/

It's written entirely in PHP so you don't need to re-compile or install anything special to use it and it works on most versions of PHP from 4 onwards (it probably works with PHP3 but I've not tried it).

There's no way I'd have another one of these

My Orange SPV M3100 was utter rubbish, it would crash all the time, especially when using Wi-Fi. I tried to get it replaced but because Orange couldn't replicate the problem they refused to change it. From now on it's Nokia all the way, I'll leave the PDAs to HP- my 5 year old iPaq still does a better job than these "smart" phones.

Usually they don't encrypt...

... so they can login to the customer's account and see whatever problem it is that they're having first hand. It is a very bad idea not to encrypt but the convenience of it means you'll likely find many, many companies do it.

I'm surprised they haven't given a US/Euro release date for this yet, but I'm sure they won't want to miss Christmas. Imagine all the people buying it to lose weight after piling it on at Christmas. I'm certain this game will be the next Brain Training for Nintendo, it's got mass-market appeal written all over it.

James Cameron has said he wants to start making films at 60fps, hopefully he will be able to make it happen. That said, it's probably going to add masses of cost onto special effects, instead of rendering 24 frames for 1 second of film, you've got to render 60.

The 360 has sold double what the PS3 has worldwide so Sony is in a very distant third place still. And remember, the PS3's sales only surged this month because of the discount on the 60GB model to get rid of old stock. The 80GB PS3 is the same as the old price so I would expect sales to dip back to their previous levels once all the old 60GB models have gone. Also, MS have cut the price of the 360, so I would expect next month to look even worse than this for the ol' PS3.

Why does the PS3 win on the GPU comparison?

I've got both systems and I've not seen anything on the PS3 that can touch the top tier 360 games like Gears of War and Bioshock. If you ask me the 360 should be the "winner" when it comes to comparing the GPUs.

I could certainly see an argument for the Cell CPU in the PS3 being superior, although comments from Ubisoft devs suggest the 360 version of Assassin's Creed will have larger crowds thanks to the symmetrical processors, and a dev on the Splinter Cell team claims the AI would be virtually impossible to achieve on the PS3. Only time will tell on that one I think.
