Re: Kapton tape good

the problem with Kapton insulation is that it suffers from a phenomenon known as "arc tracking" which is why when I was working on Tornados many years ago we spent a great deal of time during Major Servicing "protecting" the kapton with Spywrap ;)

Virgin Media to chop 800 jobs in Wales call centre

Virgin.net was supported as part of the cabletel operation out of Cleppa Park in Newport (along with Which & Tesco).

The Swansea office was acquired from Cable and Wireless (along with Wythenshaw) by ntl (as cabletel became) as part of some acquisitions which was then followed by the closure of Cleppa Park, all of which was prior to the ntl/telewest merger and the subsequent rebranding to Virgin Media

Tinyurl has the option to turn on previews so if you receive a tinyurl link you see the full URL giving you a chance to make your own mind up on whether to follow it.

Not a feature useful for scammers though so they probably don’t use tinyurl ;)

Probably not

Re: re: the DNA test results

@JimmyPage

Haven't listened to the full program but based on the write up it appears to be talking about Human DNA testing and in fact at around 1m 30 Brian COx sets the scene as "today we're looking at Race as it applies to Human DNA"

This article is about Canine DNA .

I don't have a specific article /program by someone of Brians popularity /experience to support the accuracy of DOG DNA testing when it comes to breed determination but the general opinion seems to be that "Dog DNA tests tend to be fairly accurate, although the quality of accuracy can vary depending on the tools used to asses dog genealogy and the sophistication of the laboratory used."

Ie it depends on how good a sample the owner takes, how large a database of different dog DNA samples held is, etc etc.

In WInstons case I thought that we was some sort of Irish Wolfhound cross but looking at him again the results that came back make sense

Re: Laws only stop dogs who follow the law.

@Jonathan 27

Oddly enough I've just recently had the DNA test results back for Winston (my rescue dog of unknown origin who joined me last year) COst me £ 35 and took about a month to get the results.

On the one side of his family he's German Wirehaired Pointer, Schnauzer & Greyhound

The other side is Poodle,Whippet & Cocker Spaniel

Nah it seems in a much healthier position. Unless they realy are going all out to defraud people then based on their latest updates the first production units are currently being assembled and should be rolling out shortly

TalkTalk starts offering punters choice to shift-shift to O2

"IMO there are really only two ISP's in this country, BT and Virgin Media"

An Internet Service Provider by definition is a company which provides Internet Service, they don't have to also supply the infrastructure.

Openreach, Virgin Media & Kcom (in the Hull area) are probably the big 3 infrastructure providers to the residential market.

Even before LLU (2003/4 ?) there were many fine ISPs such as Demon & BullDog providing service over BTs wires.

Nope my "free sim" is on Vodafone as was my other SIM (which I have just moved back to O2 whoo I was with previously)

Interestingly when the Psion 5 was launched back in 97 it retailed for £439 which in todays money is around $755

Homesafe not so safe?

How Ironic

From TalkTaks Status Page

https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Service-Status-Dashboard/bd-p/service

"We're aware that some customers are experiencing issues with their Homesafe settings.

We are currently investigating this issue and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time."

Looking at one of the threads looks like the wrong settings are being randomly applied to peoples lines, dynamic IP addressing issue anybody?

Reselling TalkTalk

@Martin an gof

That's probably because the phone coop (other ISPs who resell TalkTalk services are available, Andrews & Arnold for example) will be dealing with the TalkTalk Business (ie the old Opal & Tiscali Business part of TalkTalk) side of the business rather than TalkTalk Residential.
