Re: Good thing

For the feeble-minded, tech-oblivious people. The people who don't need this will find the option to disable it.

Well barring for the moment, that this is in fact an article for Google's Chrome browser. I think you might find the ability to either "disable", or to "revert" becoming ever more challenging upon each new weekly release of a certain other browser, that trying its damnedest to be Chrome.

Ouch... right in the Androids! Google hit by another antitrust sueball

Re: choice

if anything, class action should be against Apple who bundle/force Safari onto all their users - didnt MS get into tonnes of trouble in the past decade for doing that with their IE browser? one rule for MS, another for Apple?

I'd ask if your being serious, but agghh skip it. That's like asking Google, and MicroSoft to bundle Opera into their "Devices" (and or Operating Systems) too. The AC doth protest too much, methinks.

If anything I'd rather see Apple get smacked into reality by NOT being to de facto goto OS (e.g. iOS), standard. When Android is clearly the Worlds Nr. 1 Mobile OS in numbers. I for One am sick and tired of the same old mantra.... Android when?!?

I think this is where Apple need a check!

Save the porn thing for later though.

Quite frankly I'm shocked that AT&T would give you enough data to actually watch a porn vid. Then again pretty much any video. Without eating up what little Data you had for the Month.

Re: Time to sue the Internet

It's fantastic. This guy finds out how much everybody in the neighborhood is paying for hay, grows that, instead of more fucking corn, undercuts the local asses by 20% and now he's got four trucks and 300 acres of hay growing 30 miles away and all because this guy figured out how to give Google money.

1) Its called Capitalism - in a otherwise free market.

2) Nobody is forcing you (or your neighbors), to buy from him, and your welcome to stay loyal for +20% of what your "Friend" charges you.

If he makes more money selling Hay, then he would by selling Corn. I'd for one call that a smart business decision. So why are you so angry about that part again?

The Idiots that can't, or won't think about why its a bad idea to pay someone cash for something they should be able to do themselves... (i.e. Replace some dead Batteries). Deserve to get stung much harder for their trouble if you asked me.

Re: Time to sue the Internet

The internet has become a monopoly for sending information over long distances. "It’s clear that [the Internet] has not achieved this monopoly through offering a better [system], but through its strategic, anti-competitive placement, and it doesn’t take a forensic economist to see that this is evidence of market manipulation".

I bet all the Worlds Postal Services must be salivating right about now. I still find it humorous that the German Post at least attempted to create a "Premium Rate" eMail Service Once to try and compete with the Internet. Do to lacking sales on regular postage. For all I know they maybe either continuing to sell this, or finally let it die a death.

But, its hard not to see how the Internet (of things), has kicked-in one massive dent into these postal Services, since the Internet came along.

Re: Browser settings: Advanced: Set Search Engine

Browser settings: Advanced: Set Search Engine. Done.

Was that hard?

But saying that, after a factory reset, I do usually have to reverse EVERY SINGLE Google suggested setting though.

i.e. default homepage, remember passwords, remember form data*, form autofill*, user location, do not track

*yes that's 2 settings

If it were anymore simpler these trolls would still find something to bitch about. Me personally I would like to see a class action against Apple for always getting all the "Good Apps" BBC iPlayer et-al long before the Worlds Nr.1 Mobile OS Android. Which despite being the "Worlds Nr1 Mobile OS", is always getting treated as a Third-Class Citizen.

This needs to stop!

Re: Hagens Berman works for Microsoft

If you google "Hagens Berman", you'll find that it is located in Seattle and that one of its partners is "an active member of the firm's Microsoft defense team." Coincidence?

Personally I don't believe in coincidences...

Michael Habel

well they are lawyers after all. And dumb ones at that. Everyone has a choice on what search engine they use. ALTA VISTA is a good one I hear, so are others that are not in the Good ole USA. Too bad that Google is the most popular currently. Also too bad that the plaintiffs do not know anything about how Internet and Internet Search work.

I though Alta Vista went tits-up yonks ago... Then again perhaps I was thinking of Astalavista...

Michael Habel

Re: I can disprove this case 3 three steps or less

You just glossed over the part where the default home page is http://www.[vendor].com/launch.js?vendor=[vendorname] which then forwards you to http://www.google.com.

I tried Firefox on Mobile Once... And it sucked!! END OF FORKING LIST!

The enforced Awesome Screen is anything but, awesome. And, I'm fairly confident that you can at least alter the homepage in most Browsers AOSP Browser (Which I use in CM10), and again on Chrome, as well as Dolphin or Opera. To any Website, or other Search Engine of your choice. But, of course this is like to much work for some people ain't it?

Its only on Firefox that prevents you from actually (i.e. simply) reaching the Homepage without having to jump though a bunch of fecking shite first.

So you argument is invalid!

Michael Habel

The problem is that all of Google's services are bundled. If you want to offer Maps, Calendar, Music, Play Store, but use a different search engine, you're screwed.

How so?! I bought my Androids knowing full well that they were "with GOOGLE". After all its the GAPPs that make Android what it is. So is this pissing & moaning so much about the Search Engine, or the success of GAPPs, that both Apple, and MicroSoft have yet to figure out?

Michael Habel

I can disprove this case 3 three steps or less

2) Goto http://yahoo.com

Re: It's not my birthday today!

This company sued a guy (geohot) for jailbreaking. eg: opening up hardware they own.

So fuck them and the horse they rode in on.

Did Geohot even do anything at all? Besides leaking the "Keys", that were found not, by him but, by Team Fail0verflow instead? I think... That is IIRC, I think he was trying to work on a way to get to those already known Keys though the OtherOS, as a thought experiment. Enough to the point where S0NY canned his butt, and OtherOS along with it!

Problem was the "Keys" were already known... So it was a pointless exercise anyway. S0NY ditched OtherOS presumably on the good faith that those Keys were still unknown at the time, or that no one would have had to balls to publish 'em. That was where S0NY miscalculated... BIG TIME!

To be fair though I'm kinda shocked that the didn't crush Geohot and Team Fail0verflow, more so then they had.

Now as to some of the benefits of installing a CFW to your CECH-20/21 PS3, any why you should include...

A near fully working PS2 Software Emulator, and a PSP Soft Emulator as well. With a bit of Homebrew called ShowTime, you can actually pay stuff on (or though), your PS3 that was always "broken" before... Mostly *.MKV Stuff... Oh yeah and, if you like you could also re-install a Linux OtherOS again if you so desired to... Though I gather the PS3 still doesn't actually have a working RSX (nVidia Graphics) Linux Driver yet. Something that Geo was also reportedly working on at the time. Again IIRC. So I doubt anyones gonna get Ubuntu w/Unity working on it anytime soon....

Nor should they!

Re: Pride goeth before a fall

you forgot their proprietary memory. Duo and Duo plus I think.

They made great technology but as most Japanese companies have been trying to dictate consumers what they want along with an aversion to take any risk and now that mentality is biting them.

Nope.jpg At least you could use those in their Phones & Camera's. I think your looking for that PS-Vita Memory that was only made to be used by it, and it alone. That my dear friend was low... Very, very low!

Michael Habel

Re: Pride goeth before a fall

Most of it's wounds have been self-inflicted.

Sony invents Betamax, JVC responds with the technilogically inferior VHS. RCA, biggest seller of TVs in America approaches Sony, wants to sell Betamaxes, Sony says, "No, we don't need you". RCA shrugs, cuts deal with JVC instead. By the time Sony realizes it made a mistake and cuts a deal with Zenith, #2 after RCA, it's already too late to reverse VHS's march to dominance.

Same with Mini-disc; saddles it with proprietary (if superior) format, refuses to support mp3 until it's, again, too late to salvage it.

Then, of course, there's the CD root kit fiasco.

Must have been somewhat sweet to see Blu-ray triumph but I guess that's not going too well these days.

Too bad, really, they've always made nice kit.

I personally believe the Market would have gone with HD-DVD if they had any real choice in the matter. The fact is S0NY managed to skew the Numbers Game in their favor by counting every PS3 as a BlueRay Player. With which it dazzled the like of Warner Brothers with its bullsh-- to get it to back its Format over HD-DVD, at the time.

And here I've never once even seen a full BlueRay Movie ever. I do have the 20 PS3 Games on BlueRay though. Just no Movies.

Michael Habel

Sony should sell off Columbia studios. It will at least film industry better

I concur S0NY would do well to get out of the Music, and Film industries.

Re: It's not my birthday today! @Gene Cash

A surprising reaction to news of a company that's in trouble, who, over the years have provided a fair few innovations, in many areas of both consumer and professional electronics. The Walkman and the first CD player, immediately spring to mind.

Not sure about the WalkMan. But, wasn't the Compact Disk not a Phillips invention?

Michael Habel

Re: It's not my birthday today!

Because he likes Xbox.... And Microsoft told him that the nasty people at Sony took away his OtherOS, which he was planning to use to get free pirated games.

OtherOS could, and would never be used to get free Games. The only thing that gave anyone free Games was S0NY inability to properly write a PRNG Code. Which gave gave pissed off OtherOS Hackers some nice Ammo to shoot down S0NY with. If you want Free Games on the PS3 Format... Just get yourself a shiny used CECH-20xx or CECH21xx (Slim) Console, and a NOR Flash ROM Programer. Then you can install CFW to our hearts content!

A once great comedian once said...

Hey, if you read history, you realize that God is one of the leading causes of death. Has been for thousands of years. Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians all taking turns killing each other 'cause God told them it was a good idea. The sword of God, the blood of the lamb, vengeance is mine. Millions of dead motherf**kers. Millions of dead motherf**kers all because they gave the wrong answer to the God question. 'You believe in God?' 'No.' Boom. Dead. 'You believe in God?' 'Yes.'
