Macs to Linux fans: Stop right there, Penguinista scum, that's not macOS. Go on, git outta here

Michael Habel

Re: I can see Apple's point...

Somehow I really doub't that, this is how Linux updates actually work. I mean Linux goes al the way back to what 1989/90, and NOBODY has had this evil-genuis thought be for you decided to chime in with it?

Re: Ah diddums

No choice? I'm sure Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer (Just rolling it off the top of my gulliver), would all just happen to disagree with you. But, yeah those Machines could only just about give you a so-so Hackintosh expreance. Which I'll admit was only mildly usefull back in the glory days of the Third-Gen 40GB iPod. When I needed to use what was then, and Hell probably still is a MacOS Exclusuve Audiobook Chapter breaking Program that allowed me to setup such Audiobooks up with the appropiate Chapters.

Sadly the iPod has been sitting in a dark dusty drawer for about as many years now. having been replaced by Google Play Music, on Android.

And, here I thought the main difference (per-se), between *nux, and BSD, was the GPL, or a lack therof. Which made, or makes BSD more atractive to the like of Apple, and S0NY. (i.e. The underlying OS on PSP, PS3, Vita, and PS4).

Re: HP is terrified

Yes to wit the "Answer" is those ~Systems~ usually already have the added MicroSoft Tax allready attached to them. So they already have about as much Money, as they are likely to make off of you. Till you either formally updated to the next OS (e.g. From XP to 7), or you buy a newer bit of Kit again with WinX as the pre-install.

Which isn't quite the same as pecuring a "Necked PC" that has say FreeDOS as its shipping and, dare one say disposable OS installed.

What with the way MicroSoft is taking Windows Operating System X, to an ever encroching "SAAS" subscription model. Which itself may never actually come to pass. For if it did, it would surly kill of Windows as a going concern. At, least for those outside of the Corporate sphere. Again which is why this hasn't already happend, unlike with say Office, which very quickly did.

I really enjoyed going down that Rabit Hole you provided. (The Wiki Link to "Third World Countries"), that has the Emerald Isle, in of all Colours Green. Why should I find this enjoyable you mighr be asking yourselves. Well Blue is considerd First World, Red was given to Russia, and China, (You know those Second World faild Socialist States. Kinda makes sence in a poetic sort of way.), and alas the poorest Third Worlders got stuck with Green.

Why replace what just works? And, in most (Albeitly NOT all!), cases if the Vendor decides to up and feck off with the Updates... (Looking at you Samsung!). Then thankfully we have, or had People working on AOSP's for those Devices*, that have done an otherwice terriffic job at keeping said Devices a bit more usefull than they might have otherwise had been.

So again. Why replace something... Becuse its newer, with something I already have? I susspect thats how 3D TV ultimately died. Because Full HD haden't even been out (i.e. In the mainstream.), for like Five Years, before they thought to add it. The People were still, and hell probably still to this Day, enjoying their dumb TVs. and, have no intentions to buy another until said Device releases its magic smoke. e.g. nobody bought the shiny new 3D Sets, and it was considerd to be a failure, because nobody wanted it. Funny thing is I wonder why they just dont toss it in like the creapy spyware *cough* Smart TV *cough* functions. it would have at least possibly lead to some industy wide standard.

But, alas 3D wasn't to be....

*Updates be they from the Vendor, or indeed via Google's ASOP Repo. But, than again it's only those who will eventually find themselve on a Site like this. That'll actually give a toss about 'em. Now just imagine your Auntie who wouldn't know an Update from a Hole in the Ground, And is still enjoying a Kit-Kat flavored Android lifestye. Again it just seems to work.. So its still good enough right?

Re: Don't break them up

It doesn't really answer my concerns though, does it. It must be a wonderful time where someone can make baisless accusations about a Corporation, just because it's the happing thing to do so.

Google sure as heck has no need of my defence, and I have my geavences with them being extremely "Evil" towards those with diversive opinions. Usually those of a right if center, being silenced, and or outright being unpersons. e.g. Alex Jones. Then you have a case to bitch Google out.

But, blocking some mythical third-party from entering the Mobile OS space? This needs more than merely some autistic squeching from the Internet. 'Cause if it's true than yes it's now time to go and smack a be-yitch.

Problem is it's all probably not true. And Op has somehow confused Google's bundling of Apps... ON ITS OWN PLATFORM! (Funny how everyone has seemed to forget this!). Is as far away from "Blocking" some new kid from joining the game.

So will Op deliver?

Re: Don't break them up

A Down Vote?! Really I guess I shouldn't have been all that surprised. It was of course the only reasonable response you could have expected from an anti-google NPC.

But, take your time to cite just the One example of where Google is actively blocking any Third Party from pushing an alternative Mobile OS. That isn't just a repacked AOSP rip-off of Android.

Re: Don't break them up

A case in point is Google's efforts to prevent any competition in phone operating systems.

[CITATION NEEDED]...

Or were we thinking of WinPhone perchance? Then how is it Googles fault that MicroSoft decided their pile of sick (i.e. Live Tiles), was going to be the UI to rule them all. And, yet (For them), wasn't? Were you thinking of Symbian? LOL Of course Nokia had to go with Android, by this point. Perhaps had MicroSoft managed to leave them (e.g. Nokia), alone they might have had a winner on their hands with Meego (IIRC), but, again it wasn't to be. But, yet you would seem to be ready to indite Google for this?

Why?!

At the rate Apple are going, they're just going to be an iPad in a MacBook case.

Depends on what I need to do, and probably most likely the overall legality of it. I could imagine the ESA taking a dim view towards running Oriface 2016 under Wine, on a Laptop running Linux. Even if there wasn't anything else wrong with that senario as such.

But, if the "People" do have to decide between Linux, and something that reportedly just works, then I sussepect the time to pick up some Stock in Apple might be right about, now. Of course the only actual snag in that rag, is. Does Apple even remember that that they were a Computer Manufacture? As of couse that part of Apple has been left to hang for far too long now. in contrast to all the other iThings they want to sell you.

Linux

Re: What don't they get

They can still chose to move to either Linux, which is simply getting better all the damed time. Or, barring that shudder get a Mac / Hackentosh. Which also host the same array of Software as ye 'old PC, but, currently without all the restrictions of Windows X.

To say that there are ABSOLUTLY no other options out there is just a bit disingenuous dont'cha think? Yes I grant you that for the moment. Such as its still allowed to exist, is the best one we currently have. (e.g. Windows 7). Alas it won't always continue to be this way. At least not under Satya Nadella, perhaps the Cat that comes along in the next 10-15 years to take his job, might return the Company bac to something bordering sanity. Alas, I suppose we will only start seeing this after 2020 cut off.

About the only thing thats keeping me on the platform is Adobe at this point. So perhaps my next Machine probably most likely be a return back to Adobe's spirtiual home on a Mac. But, its not like there arn't other Photohop-esq Programs out there, that do what it does. Only cheaper for the layman, but, these Devlopers, just need more convincing to sell their Products on Linux. IMHO this will happen, it has to happen, and when it does happen. MicroSoft will be instantly forgotten, outside of the Corpoate-shpere, if not also inside of it.

@Dwarf

You use the term "evolve", but, what is there to say that trying to further monotize something as basic as an Operating System (i.e. Windows), into a monthly income spinner. isn't a valid form of evolution. Granted its a form of a large cancerous mutaint. That would best be revmoed from the host, to prolong its life. But, alas we're not the ones in the Operating Theater to make that call.
