Re: MiguelC

What facilities are at Langley? Do a quick Google and check the Wikipedia hit. You got your US Air Force commands and some silent partners.....omitted from that entry is the NASA contingent, among others.

Re: Speaking of which,

@The Oncoming Scorn:

I (used to) work on the road a lot...for years. Couple years ago, my (non-technical) wife called me reporting that her computer wasn't working....couldn't enter typed input. And then testily stated "and yes, she'd rebooted it (before I could ask for the 10,000th time). After a few seconds thought I asked, did you check/replace batteries in the keyboard?

Short silence on the other end of the phone, then she said "You never told me it had batteries." True....so this immediately became all my fault. (We'd been married 40+ years at that point. I'll say no more.)

Walked her through flipping it over and opening the compartment bit, replacing the batteries and she was back in the game.

Ginger emoji? Why now? Perhaps one of the gingers snapped.

I'll grab my coat and hat on the way out..........

Re: Way Back...

US Navy ET (Electronics Technician) school (and BE&E prior to--that's Basic Electronics and Electricity training) have stood me in good stead over the years.

It still pisses off the Missus when I ask her "is it plugged in/turned on?" after 44 yrs of marriage. And she still thinks it's lame that I ask her "when's the last time your PC/laptop/tablet/phone was rebooted?" when the object is acting flaky.

Non-techies have no idea how many times those two questions (and their answers) magically fixes things.

Re: the big red button

Contracted to a US National bank for IT work. Nature of work required frequent trips into the Datacenter from my cube farm desk. All went well until one morning arrived and my cipher lock combo didn't work. Tried several times thinking I'd fat fingered it, nope. Buzzed for someone to come let me in. A Bank Full Time Employee (FTE) came. Asked for a picture ID (even though we worked at adjacent desks). Thought he was pulling my leg, but he was dead serious. Produced said ID. Allowed into the cube farm. Asked WTF's going on. Apparently the evening prior a disgruntled contractor (different firm) had hit the BRB on his way out of the DC. Brought the bank's entire national system to a halt. New rules: ALL contractors to be escorted at ALL times when in the DC. So for the duration of the contract, I was escorted. FTE's were pissed because it pulled them away from their desk/work in progress. Contractors were pissed at the FOOL who'd started this whole mess. Fallout: Bank sued Contracting company for damages; 6 months later said Contracting company was in bankruptcy.

Re: Great

Lucky you getting those speeds. Out here in AssCrack, eastern North Carolina ('Murica) I'm paying my Cable ISP (TWC/Sputum) for 300MB/Sec and have yet to reach anywhere near those speeds. Bitching about it just results in a tech call followed by a premise visit and a statement that "it looks good to them." One law i DO wish the Donads's Gu'ment would pass is to do away with the cable monopolies in the US. Some healthy competition is in order. But don't see that happening in my lifetime based on the Donald's business friendly stance.

@Chemical Bob: And? Your point? Just stay off my lawn, you young whippersnapper!

Biz sends apps to public cloud, waves 'bye to on-premises server folk. NO! WAIT!

Blew my morning coffee out my nose on that statement alone.

Well crafted, my friend.

G-waves?

" the “g-waves” don't leave a visible signature."

Which probably explains why that illusive "G-Spot" has been so hard to find.
