Apple stalls CSAM auto-scan on devices after 'feedback' from everyone on Earth

"Apple has the right to keep illegal materials off its servers", "When my browser downloads illegal images" - but how is it known to be illegal? That's the sticky point that's easier said than done. YOU know what's illegal, but to a computer, it's just random bits of, well, bits, hence why anyone can upload anything.

This is why the CSAM database exists, but to fit your preference, it would have to exist on your phone scanning your browser, which brings us back round to square one.

Re: CPU usage

Same for me, Firefox 87. Firefox isn't detecting anything in the background, but I can instantly tell what it is. That pointless moving background picture.

Re: "it's about ensuring that what the client receives is what they were supposed to receive"

As a user, how much control do you have regarding how the internet works in the first place? If https was a standard to begin with, would you still be complaining about it? I don't see the difference between this and car manufacturers having to make cars heavier due to extra safety features. The driver lost nimbleness, in return for better safety. I'll take that.

Re: A proprietary ~7%.

If you make both the CPU and the GPU, why would you NOT want them to work better together? It's not like the GPU won't work well enough with Intel, it's just that you get a slight performance boost when paired with their own 5000 series chips. I honestly don't see the problem there. It's no different to Apple making both the hardware and the software, and people wondering why iOS runs so well on less memory than Android equivalents.

I don't understand why TV and Broadband are considered two separate entities. My answer would be "My favourite channels are on the internet."
