Thumb Up

Oh go on, then...

Having switched from being a die-hard enjoyer of the fruity Jesusmobe since the 3GS, I've spent the last year variously loving and hating an S8, the primary pain point being the inconsistent abilities of the face scanner to work if the lighting conditions aren't "just so", so the improved face scanner and in-screen fingerprint reader of the Huawei have set my heart somewhat aflutter.

monkey.local/ will load http://monkey.local/

Etc etc.

Wipro hands $75m to National Grid US after botched SAP upgrade

AlexGreyhead

Something I'm hoping the more-experienced Reg commenters could explain; why, if the estimated cost to the National Grid was ~$1bn, and was confirmed to be at the very least ~$300m, did they accept a settlement of $75m?

(Genuinely interested as I don't understand why they would accept such a low amount).

Re: Why I stopped supporting Drupal.

"Come for the software, stay for the ... people"?

But seriously, that argument's a bit on the silly side isn't it? That's like swearing-off Windoze because it powers the computer systems of Evil Corp.

(Full disclosure: I earn a crust as a Drupal developer and have seen some awful examples of sites built with it, but I've also seen awful Wordpress sites, awful Joomla sites, and awful home-grown sites).

Re: Not half-way good enough.

I've read El Reg since at least 2001.

I've probably learnt at least as much through El Reg's hacks as I did for my Computer Science BSc (Hons) - although that may equally be a sign of my lack of scholarly attention as it is the Reg hacks' knowledge and writing ability.

In any case, I would gladly pay a reasonable subscription to get access to The Register's content.

I suspect most long-term readers would, too - most of us are IT professionals in some guise or other and this site is a good source of relatively unbiased content.

Paris for no other reason than they managed to shoe-horn her into this week's episode of Grand Tour (yes, I hate myself for watching it, too, but it makes I laugh...).
