Apple iOS 7 remote wipe: Can it defeat the evil scrumper scourge?

Jailbreakers

It will be interesting to see how the jail breakers handle this. My opinion is that the core teams are ethical - they Jailbreak so that users can install non-approved apps, unlock the SIM from a carrier, and so on. The downside is that this allows app piracy.

If there's a way to provide JB without circumventing the lock I would expect them to do it.

Of course, there will be others who will attempt to break the lock, but time will tell how widely available that knowledge (and toolset) will become.

Confirmed: Driverless cars to hit actual British roads by end of year

Packed side streets

I love the idea of autonomous cars, but I think there are some serious challenges for them.

Picture the scene: A packed London side street - parked cars on both side of the road, only one car can pass in either direction. This situation requires drivers to recognise the problem and co-operate (flash one car through, hope the five cars behind dont follow and cause gridlock).

How will auto cars work this out without being able to communicate with an oncoming human driver? How will we prevent the robot car from following a car into the tight spot? Will the robot car realise that it needs to reverse back to the nearest gap? Etc etc. Would hate to have to program the code for this!

I can't wait until these things are sorted - it's v tricky for people (who often fail in this situation).

Cool

I've got kids of 8 and 5. They have a Bluecoat web filter on the (locked down) PC they use and it keeps them safe(r), but I do get pestered about pop videos and stuff on Youtube that they want to watch. If this means I can unlock YouTube for them, I'm happy about that.

The one time I let the 8 year old loose on YouTube, she was searching for the Michael Jackson "Scream" video. The search term "scream" left her watching some stuff that she was traumatised by (momentarily at least). And yes - I shouldn't have left her alone, but it was a judgement call that turned out to be wrong. It happens.

Loving that

Damn fine piece of kit, but I can't help wondering about the whole "circle of life" thing - you know - if we kill all the mozzies, we'll have a plague of elephants. That sort of thing.

Anyone know what mozzies actually do in the ecosystem, other than spread disease?
