How long do you estimate before that price sensitive bubble bursts?

It looks to me that people are purchasing not on price but by features. You can get most of the stuff (sometimes more depending on your leaning) on a cheap android but people are shunning those and spending multiples more on stuff they want.

I guess it’s like buying a Dacia vs a mini or bmw something, bmw probably sell vastly more of everything than Dacia at much more cost to the customer, yet they are still around and both manufacturers sell cars with 4 wheels, brakes, electric windows, abs, traction control etc.

My next car may be a Skoda purely because I like the way they have reinvented themselves and love the styling etc and I’m sure I can pick enough options to make it what I want, the rest of my family wouldn’t be seen dead in one purely because of their previous image.

Some people are more accepting of change than others.

the better solution would be to encrypt the private info as its added to the exif. anyone wanting it could send you the encrypted data, you feed it into your device/photo management app and it can then send them the photo with the correct unencrypted exif data.

i wish i could upvote you more than once.

it grates when you read the story and come away confused as the journalist is either deliberately trying to confuse or just doesn't know enough about the subject to realise the write up is confusing. Either way for a tech site this article should be much better on the detail that counts as the vast majority of readers deal in minutia constantly and it matters.

i see the furore, but.......

if you absolutely need the radio's off then currently you have to go to airplane mode to ensure the gsm/lte radio is off anyway,

most of the time you turn wifi or bluetooth off to disconnect from or prevent connecting to something that is usually not an Apple something.

If i turn her bluetooth off to connect my phone to the car sound system i really don't mind if her phone is still connected to her watch, saves me grief when she moans her watch isn't connected as i forgot to turn it back on again.

They should change its name so its clear its just disconnecting from non apple stuff but still on.

They should also explain the ramifications for tracking purposes (the MACS and ID's should be randomized etc)

Also what's with the reenabled at 5am nonsense? What's so special about 5am.

No drivers exist for the hardware in question, even the hackers resort to hardware changes.

If people are told it won't work then Apple will get far fewer complaints than if they let people install the free software who then find out they can't connect to the net, can't uninstall the OS and Apple and their customers are left with an expensive hardware replacement trip to the Apple Store.

Far easier to say no it won't install as hardware is incompatible, which is the truth, and let some savvy customers hack around to get the OS to install, build a hackintosh or buy a new Mac.

Take longer to fix them and your employer gets to charge more, (may need more ram or disk etc). More charge = more revenue = more pay for them and if your lucky 5% for you for increasing customer engagement leading to increased sales.

It's stupid but the worst performers seem to get the best rewards.

you are correct, but most people's test system is just an identical implementation of the live system with dummy data.

Most COTS systems don't provide the ability to customise the system as you describe and most IT shops won't have the ability to add that customisation either.

The best thing they can do is ensure no test data gets on the live system and that they have documented processes that ensure separation.

At the end of the day, real data was added to the test system, provided it was suitably scrubbed and stayed onsite (in country or just not on the net) then the data was contained.

It would be upto the software vendor to provide a facility to brand the test system as a test system.

i'd love to be able to afford a grand seiko.

funny how they just tell the time yet cost thousands, yet people moan about a hugely powerful computer in your pocket that can do all sorts for £1k.

they don't give you anything beyond the DAC that powers the built in speakers as there is no 3.5mm jack. the lightening to 3.5mm jack has its own DAC in the cable. Streaming sound to anything will use the DAC in the playback hardware. The money saved has gone into improving something else like the camera or screen, or cpu.

Thats funny as mine and hers iPhone 6 batteries are exhibiting unusual rapid battery drain as of the last 2 weeks.

gone from all day surfing, whats app email etc to just a few hours.

I can't believe Apple could be doing this on purpose but it is an odd coincidence.

its because they don't have enough trained humans to answer the calls on demand and use the robots to add delay in the hope that a human will be available once you've done with the robot. They could just train more humans but then the cost of the service goes up, less profits etc etc. Its much cheaper to have a few less humans than they need as typically its not costing them anything (or very little) for you to be waiting on the phone a few mins vs the cost of employing extra humans.

so how does everyone connect to the cloud and how does the cloud connect to itself and others?

People don't seem to understand what a data network is or its significance in enabling everything else that runs on it.

People don't realise their cars contain high speed data networks, or the mobile phone masts are connected via high speed nets or even that the analogue phone lines are now actually digital, with voice being encoded and sent along high speed data network from the cab or exchange. if 3 or more machines need to connect then they will do so likely over a high speed network with its own rules and processes that at some point will interface with other networks that have their own rules and processes and all needs to be seamless to the user.

We all want it reliable, scalable, extensible, quick, secure and above all cheap. The cloud is not the answer to this EA chaps networking woes, its actually a huge risk to him as he won't have control.

It'd be easier to realtime stream crucial data via satellite (location, heading, speed, altitude as a minimum) just like engine data is currently related back to rolls royce. In fact air France crash from Argentina a few years back, before the jet was found all they had was the realtime data which showed iirc conflicting speed info which was due to the frozen pito tubes which directly contributed to the crash as the auto pilot stopped and the pilots where feeding the computer conflicting instructions one erroneously constantly pulling up whilst the captain was pushing down to get air speed to unstall the plane.

There's many things Trump doesn't get, he's the bull in the China shop, smashing everything up because he doesn't understand and doesn't want to understand. Once he's gone the shop will still be there, in need of a huge cleanup and restocking, removing all the crap he left behind and in need to convince its neighbors and potential customers its safe to come back in and measures are in place to prevent any new bulls from entering.

When a nation has nuclear weapons and its leader is so removed from reality, the rest of the world truly trembles in terror. This is the reason why we don't want other nations having the bomb, as we fear their leaders are unstable and irrational.
