There was a time when Intel's marketing folk dictated that ultimate clock speed was all that mattered.The result was Pentium 4.
I remember a Vulture on here extrapolating the heat density of the NetBurst (including Pentium 4) family of chips and pointing out that it wasn't going to be long until it was greater than the centre of a nuclear reactor...
Well, Sheep is already taken
Unfortunately, encouraging techies to always stay for an hour or two to confirm there are no catastrophic issues after said task was completed, is ineffectual. Only experience seems to instill that behaviour.
Au contraire... As a techie going home triggers the fault, I'd send them for a beer as soon as the work is done so the issue is triggered before the great unwashed come into work again...
Serif PagePlus...Anyone remember that, I started off with version 3 I believe
Yeah, I think we had a cut down version of V2 on Windows 3.11.
I used it for many years and I've held on to the X2 CDRom in case I ever want/need to open the files again (assuming I could get it to install on "modern" Windows.
I would urge you (and anyone else reading this) to arrange for powers of attorney for your parents and other loved ones BEFORE you end up in a situation
This 1000 times!
And not just for your parents, a friend in the UK was recently hospitalised as she was in no state to look after herself and the doctor was hopeless. Her parents tried to intervene, but no solicitor would help as there was no power of attorney setup.
I did an Erasmus year at a campus quite far outside of the city and you needed to hop on a bus to get to the nearest shop. Some of the other students there smoked and I saw them go through the ash tray and getting the tobacco out from the stubs which they then rolled into a cigarette. Apparently it was as disgusting as it sounds.
Put an exercise bike into every household. Equip it with an inverter. Plug every one into a wall socket. BOOM, everybody is responsible for putting 1 kWhr into the wall, per person, per day.
The BBC did a show where they got a warehouse full of cyclists to power a house. IIRC it went well until they tried to use the oven
What they needed afterwards -->
