GitLab's move off Azure to Google cloud totally unrelated to Microsoft's GitHub acquisition. Yep

Paul Matencio

Re: How?

Irrelevant. Google GKE has more features than AKR, it is faster and it costs less. It people in traditional enterprise are not that smart if not they woukd move to GKE( based on my experience)

Twitter signs for Google cloud at list price of about $10m a month

Re: Don't put all your eggs

Ask Apple, Spotify or Salesforce if they get Google cloud for nothing. However you shouldn't complain if they are less expensive than their main competitors. This being said there are also other players that are more competitive than the big three.

If you want to pay more for less it is your choice. Based on my personal experience, Google cloud is way faster than Azure and quite faster than AWS and it costs less.

Airbus CIO: We dumped Microsoft Office not over cost but because Google G Suite looks sweet

Paul Matencio

Re: GSuite is not enterprise ready

What do you mean by not enterprise ready? what can´t you do with G suite? could you be more explicit? I know that I can do a lot thing with G suite that I don´t know how to do with Office. For other people, it could be the other way around.

Get tooled up before grappling with Google's Spanner database

Paul Matencio

Re: And

Such a useless comment. Spanner is used internally by Google applications that bring them en of billion dollar per quarter and you believe they are going to drop it. By the way, do you also think that Google is going to drop Coogle Cloud Platform or Google Kubernetes Engine.

BIG open-source love Microsoft and Google? You still won't catch AWS

Paul Matencio

Not really

That's your opinion. There are big open source on Google Cloud and Azure. Moreover as Amazon compete with the Open source projects they host, there is no reason that these Big open Source will not migrate to GCP or Azure in the future. As for instance Pivotal Cloud foundry has moved from AWS to GCP and they are saving money while getting better performance ( faster VM provisionnng and booting 50% faster than AWS, etc .)

Paul Matencio

May be But

Google is offering a lot of free services, there is no reason not to use them. Moreover there is absolutely no reason to stick to one cloud provider. All in all, there is not reason that Google will not catch AWS as long as their cloud services will be cheaper and faster.

When two tribes go to war: Docker Swarm on the left, easier-to-install Kubernetes on the right

CoreOS Tectonic is a Kubernetes distribution, Rancher is now a fan of Kubernetes. Most of Linux distributor if not all of them distribute and support kubernetes. Kubernetes run on your laptop, on your premise cluster, on multiple federated clusters, on hybrid and public clouds. It is extensible and planet scale. No other container´s orchestration can´t do that today. Here is a comparison between Kubernetes and ECS. Kubernetes run everywhere while ECS is limited to AWS.

Three times as bad as malware: Google shines light on pay-per-install

I never had such downloads on my Linux boxes, stock Android smartphone( i only use Play Store) and Chromebooks. However, is should be possible with Android if you don´t pay attention

Google's multi-zonal cloud

The big difference is it takes seconds to start a VM on GC while it takes minutes on AZURE. Starting a VM on Amazone is50℅ longer than on GC.
