So yesterday I bought a monitor switch for my studio. Thoughtfully named the "big knob" by the marketing geniuses at Mackie. Endless fun with the sales people...

There is no evidence that computers of whatever breed lead to enhanced learning outcomes

Sorry for the awful "outcomes" jargon, but outside (obviously) of technology classes (coding etc) there's just no evidence that computers in the classroom lead to students learning faster, or better.

Face it, it's just fresh fodder for the tech predators. Get 'em while they're young.

Sonos will deny updates to those who snub rewritten privacy terms

old Steveo

So, you don't need to be rich to own SONOS stuff. I've acquired a bit over the last few years, and it's good kit for the money. Works well for the family. However, the changes to the privacy policy are just unacceptable and I've today asked them to take back the equipment and refund the purchase price, based on a misrepresentation of what I was buying. I don't expect them to agree, but am seriously considering a "false and misleading" complaint to our local fair trading authority. Probably more wasted time, but this trend of monetising what's essentially mine has to be resisted....

Green software blacked out Australian State

That's a ridiculous sub header. Catastrophic damage to transmission lines caused the power outage. I do not profess to be an expert on the subject matter so will defer to experts on whether the wind generation kit could have remained online, but sans transmission capability it would have been moot, surely?

Re: NBN: A one man, one act play

Spot on. Moron decision on hybrid (tin can and string) technology and ideological commitment to private ownership of key infrastructure which means...monopoly (or if you're really lucky, oligopoly). You get the politicians (and networks) you deserve. There are worse and stupider things being done ("clean" coal for example) but this makes one despair for the future of the "lucky" country. Might be time to stop relying on luck eh?

Thumb Up

Thank you. That needed to be said. I actually (no really) Have a Firefox release 1 t-shirt. I have loved it, but watched with increasing dismay as the reasons for using it diminish. It's still what I use (sentimental reasons probably) but I have now several other browsers because FF is frankly a shadow of its former self... I get the mobile Is initiative but please forget about the other copycat crap and make Firefox great again.

Ok. That clears that up then.

Ok then. That clears things up.
