Fire chief says Verizon throttled department's data in the middle of massive Cali wildfires

DanTUK

According to the beginning of this article the throttling affected comms with what I imagine is a fire department/emergency service specific application/service. I doubt it would have been difficult for the telco to bake into their contract that data to particular services/destinations are excluded from any form of throttling.

I wondered the same thing myself. A quick search brought up forum posts from 9 years ago stating that back then they also supported RTSP (probably for the first generation of 3G phones and a m.youtube.com website...).

Nice, but custom printed maps seem to be more up to date

My parents' postcode (property built in 2013) is accurate down to the blobs representing the houses on their street on custom printed maps (I bought them a copy last summer).

However this new online one is only accurate to 200 yds/mts, the detail at which only goes as far as the road of their street - the houses are missing. When zooming in any further most of the street's road disappears (also built in 2013), with the only blocks present being those representing the show houses built in 2012, and the street only going as far as these houses.
