New Windows 10 privacy controls: Just a little snooping – or the max

Re: Or... no snooping at all

I'm a bit puzzled I moved over to Windows 10 from apple just as a change and because I found it far easier to get different pieces of hardware to work and communicate and also to interact with what I do at work. Apple always cost an arm and a leg and would only communicate with other Apple devices unlike windows which seem to work well and without needing a degree in computing infrastructure.

I have had several people come to me recently and said about this telemetry stuff and I would be better using Linux its 10 times better than Windows.

Now here is the puzzling bit they went on to explain how to set it up similar to what as been described here and other posts.

I ask the same question here as I asked them, if Linux is so good why would I still need to use Windows10 there answer was, its because some of the things I do on Windows10 would not work with Linux which was also one of the other reasons I moved over from Apple.

Don't get me wrong Windows 10 is not perfect and it did take a while to get used to but it does everything I want and its quick, as for telemetry I realised the first day I used a computer and had an email and signed up to a couple of things on the internet my privacy had gone. And I would challenge anyone even on this forum to say there privacy is intact.

'I urge everyone to fight back' – woman wins $10k from Microsoft over Windows 10 misery

Re: Now the precedent has been set ...

In the UK the Judge would have told her if you did not hear about Windows 10 before it upgraded then you would be blatantly lying.

Re: Let the lawsuits begin

I totally agree and If I was a judge i would of thrown this out as soon as she mentioned she had never heard of Windows 10 until the so called forced upgrade. What planet is she on windows 7 home for a business computer hope she does not have customer details stuck on it I'd be very worried. As for not hearing about Windows 10 its splashed everywhere you cant go online without seeing a multitude of references to windows10 good or bad and that was before it was fully released and that's not including the media. Just another compensation freak

Microsoft thinks it's fixed Windows Server mess its last fix 'fixed'

is it untrue

Is this the Register spitting it's dummy out again because again it's been been found out to be spreading untruths' about Microsoft, in it's obsession and quest to trash anything Microsoft the Register as itself become a place to read no substance articles that are mostly unbelievable

We wrap our claws around latest pre-Build Windows 10 preview

The word force seems to be used more as a way of complaining. The situation in this instance is Microsoft is creating a New Eco system there's no right or wrongs that is where they are going. Now just like any business they will have issues that will need to be ironed out Just like Apple just like Linux or any other Business including manufacturing.

Now Microsoft in their wisdom release the insider program that would allow anyone to install the latest release if you CHOOSE and then be able to give constructive feedback (likes/dislikes) yes you will get the people who say make it look and feel like XP, Vista, or Win 7 that's maybe a lack of understanding of the word New, but the aim here is to make continuous improvements.

Progress can be a pain in the ass at times but its life and that is not going to change I am now 61 and seen loads of changes some good some bad, but change is always round the corner.

I have been in IT now for 15years and discovered changes happen at an extremely fast rate and my head is bursting having to continually update my knowledge no different really as to when I was an engineer albeit change happened a lot slower.

Progress is force when the Iron heated on the fire was changed to electric, when the wash tub was changed to an all in one washing machine and the list goes on, you could say progressive force as the old stuff becomes obsolete or unsupported but there is nothing forcing you to change at that moment it is your decision the same way it is your decision if you want to stay on XP Vista win7 or if you choose to go to Apple, Linux or Andriod.

There are people who don’t like change full stop that’s fine but they seem to want to force other people to agree with them and you see it all the while on these comment sections of the editorial hypes.

Then you will get those who are aligned to a specific OS eg: An Apple or Linux user commenting on a Windows forum and vice versa, which makes me wonder again an eg: why a person who is happy with Linux or Apple bother to take their time to read Microsoft articles and then comment (Strange)

It is even stranger on the Windows mobile forum the numpties that includes the editorial commentators saying why not make the Windows phones more like Apple or Andriod now that does take some head scratching.

Are well life will go on and so Apple will become Pear, Andriod will become Driod and Linux just Xunil, and all down to the FORCE

Re:Why Bother

Why not stick with your Linux no one is forcing you to have Win10 you did not need to install it there's more than enough video's and detailed information out there to see what it looks like and know what it does

How Microsoft copied malware techniques to make Get Windows 10 the world's PC pest

I think if everyone goes Linux and or Mac computing will eventually cease to exist

Microsoft will rest its jackboot on Windows 7, 8.1's throat on new Intel CPUs in 2018 – not 2017

Because there are so many things you can do on a Windows Pc that I cant on a Linux or Mac, people who know me that have little experience of IT are always asking me if I can do this or that, so to get some of my life back I have decided I will move to one of the latter just so I can say (No can do)

Stop! Before you accept that Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, read this

Re: 1020 owner here

The only thing Microsoft promised was to try for the older or 512 models of which they used the

insider program for feedback unfortunately the feedback they received for

certain models showed the experience was not good I for one fed that info back

in relation to the 520 and 530 and now I have rolled them back and they are

working fine.

I also have a 930 and my Wife's 735 and grandsons 635 are working fine on windows10 and by the way if you really want WP10 the latter 3 excellent models can be picked up cheaply on EBay.

Re: I've disabled

I love these forums so many comedians

Look out, Windows Phone 8 users – yes, both of you – here's ... Windows 10 Mobile

Re: And what do you get from W10 mobile?

I tried Andriod a few months ago not because I disliked windows phone but I'm one for trying different things, and I liked the new Samsung phones but unfortunately just like the works IPhone got fed up with scroll scroll, click click, scroll and then get lost as to where I am and seemed very buggy not what I expected for a top end phone.

I'm now just waiting for my Lumia 950 to arrive I find Windows phone a lot simpler to use and in most instances you do not have to do anything because the information is there on the live tiles which I missed

Get lost, Windows 10 and Phone fans: No maps HERE on Microsoft's OS

Who cares

Its no loss and definitely no big deal there are more than enough map apps that are far better

and accurate with more detail if you intend to use it for driving, still not

sure what there problem is. Does this mean the Germans are not very good at

All the apps that I had on my Nokia 930 on 8.1 are working fine on WP10 and its still only beta

Microsoft adds 'non-security updates' to security patches

Re: Its all Hype the histeria is hilarious

If they run a Business and they haven't got control over what upgrades or installs on there system then I would question there IT department as it sounds very poor, we have 2000 windows 7 PC's and none have auto updated to windows 7 sounds like they might be using the wrong licence. On another note we have more or less completed testing and shall be doing a controlled upgrade to Windows 10 later this year. I really don't know what all the fuss is about its notifications not Ads IE and windows 10 both belong to Microsoft how and where the push them notifications is irrelevant . If people are that worried about personnel information and what businesses can and cant do then they would not be using social media sites which I can guarantee that all the people on here who are spitting there dummies out of the pram are. They will have given out far more information than Microsoft collects that's for sure and those social media sites use it for whatever purpose they choose.

Re: I'll jump in before everybody starts to state the obvious....

You don't get angry but you start and finish with angry expletives so another one of many on here who is clueless

Please jump

See the Apple and Linux fan boys are here again trolling the waves obviously not happy with there own systems else why even bother to read about articles relating to a Windows, For all those that wish to jump please do so but try to do it quietly and try to make sure you hit the ground head first to at least guarantee we do not in the likelyhood that you may live otherwise have to listen to your babble.

Re: Ho Hum

These people that keep saying they hope windows dies and goes away well you do not have to wait you have apple or linux and if they are not you want then stop harping on and live with it or your argument is meaningless

windows 7 has been updating regular since its release

windows 7 has been updating regular since its release so why all the fuss about updates to windows 10 or upgrading to windows 10 its being hyped up like its something new 3.1, 95, 98, millennium, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8,8.1 and now 10,

So what's more amusing is the people who say they hate Microsoft and Windows and no one will move them off Windows . The Register is turning out to be a great place to read stupid comments from I guess thicko's

Re: It didn't happen to me

Wow you have restored sanity there are some people who really understand business IT I was beginning to think logic had gone from this forum
