Broadcom throws VMware customers on perpetual licenses a lifeline

This should incur jail time

There should be some path to jailing people for coming out with statements like "how best to prepare them [our customers] for success" while brazenly screwing said customers.

Raspberry Pi on IPO plans: 'We want to be ready when the markets are ready'

Re: Here's hoping the IPO doesn´t ruin the community and support

Industrial companies a bit like miners snatching the GPU of the sad gamer hands.

I'm an 'industrial customer'. We're a small (<20 employees) UK company supplying medical software with some associated hardware to the NHS. Our solution plays a key part in research improving outcomes for patients.

Let's not pretend that there are no off the shelf industrial computers capable of whatever it is needed for them to do.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you haven't spent years developing a hardware solution, gone through multiple revisions of the hardware, designed an enclosure and (this is the BIG one) gotten the whole thing certified for use.

A lot of 'industrial customers' put a lot of trust into Raspberry Pi to be a dependable supplier who provide a stable product with a decent shelf life. They did their best to deliver on this.

New to the job?

"said Adnan Malik, Barings Law's head of data breach"

Why do I get a feeling that that role didn't exist two months ago :-)

OpenSSH takes aim at 'capture now, decrypt later' quantum attacks

Tommy G1

When the NSA tells you not to worry...

So someone with a massive interest in being able to decrypt tells us that there's no need to use really, really good encryption?

Tesla driver charged with vehicular manslaughter after deadly Autopilot crash

Tommy G1

Tesla is playing word games with people's lives at stake.

This sums it up in one sentence.

The driver is absolutely responsible and this guy should be jailed if convicted but this is going to keep happening while these cars are marketed as "self-driving but you need to keep an eye on things *wink*"

Logitech Signature M650: A mouse that will barely emit a squeak or a clickety-click

Re: Nothing beats the MX Master imho

Same here. The Dark Field tech is brilliant.

I splashed out on an MX Master 3 recently and the scroll-wheel automatically switching from precision to free-wheeling seems incredibly gimmicky until you've been using it for a few weeks then move to another computer / mouse that doesn't have it. THEN you appreciate it!

When civilisation ends, a Xenix box will be running a long-forgotten job somewhere

If I've learned one lesson...

working in IT (other than that 'switch it off and on again' is a cliché for a reason) it is to never name a server something-temp.

It'll grate on you for years to come.

Re: HP LaserJet 4

I'm no fan of the modern HP but the LaserJet 4 Plus was possibly the best printer ever made.

We shipped a LOT of them back in the day and only ever got support calls to help people struggling with the JetDirect networking side of things.

The Nokia 6210 of printers!

Scalpel! Superglue! This mouse won't fix its own ball

Tommy G1

Re: Ball crud

Some years back the company I worked for at the time lost the contract to supply PCs to a local further education college.

We were told it was down to the fact that one of our competitors offered a 'College Grade Mouse' i.e. you needed a special tool to open the ball cover. Apparently the size to weight ratio of the balls made them excellent for throwing at people.

Telecoms provider Oricom working with NHS fraud officers in ongoing probe

Tommy G1

I'd assume that the term 'NHS' refers to the single monolithic entity and therefore it should be "its investigation" rather than "their investigation"?

Fully prepared to stand corrected though
