Software devs targeted as British tax authority makes fraud allegations

Richard149

Is it patentable

If the goal of the tax relief scheme is to encourage improvements to the "state of the art". The first question to ask is "show me the patent application or work you have in progress creating the application". Protecting IP is a duty for company officers and if the work could truly improve the state of the art they should have some process in place to project their investment from being copied/stolen.

App Stores

Has any asked Google and Apple if these apps break any of their store policies ?

Qualcomm: Arm threatens to end CPU licensing, charge device makers instead

Richard149

Non-transferable license ?

It sounds like Nuvia had a design license from ARM. When Nuvia was bought by Qualcomm, ARM is claiming that the design license was not transferable (standard clause) and therefore Qualcomm does not have a design license which it thought it acquired from Nuvia (oops).

If this dispute is clear-cut either way it will be settled and all reporting is posturing by both sides.

Your AI-generated digital artwork may not be protected by US copyright

AI: You chose the the program (you write the program) you chose the parameters, you chose the training set, you chose to accept or reject the output ...

Camera: Auto filter, auto exposure, auto cropping, eye tracking ... how much is done by me on a modern Camera?

Richard149

What's the difference between AI generated artwork and a modern digital camera? They both run a program to capture/produce the image in a tangible medium.

I think AI artwork should be credited (copyrighted) to the operator of the device just like a digital picture is credited to the human operator of the camera.

US Copyright Office sued for denying AI model authorship of digital image

He should argue that the computer and software is purely a technical device (like a camera) operating under his control.

Amazon tells folks it will stop accepting UK Visa credit cards via weird empty email

Re: Visa is increasing their fees to merchants in the UK.

But Amazon have a their own Mastercard (at least in the UK).

Richard149

Visa is increasing their fees to merchants in the UK.

Visa is increasing their fees to merchants in the UK as we are no longer part of the EU and the EU charges are capped.

<sarcasm> Just another benefit of leaving the EU </sarcasm>

Hated smart meters likely to be 'a costly failure' – MPs

Richard149

Have a Smart Meter, they still come and read it.

I had a smart meter fitted a few years ago. My power supplier's meter-reader still comes to read it every so often. I ask him why last time he said "is was required by law". So I wonder where any savings will be found?
