Electric cars to create new peak hour when they all need a charge

Hydrogen Economy

Personally I think building an infrastructure around Electric vehicles is money down the drain. Obviously it is great for business to have a whole new blossoming market with lots of investment and government spending. The simple matter is that electric vehicles are inherently inefficient.

The specific energy of lithium ion batteries is very poor, compared to petrol or diesel. Any benefit from the roughly 75% efficient electric motors, over the 45% efficient diesel engines is lost due to the specific energy difference of lithium ion batteries vs diesel.

It is why a model s Tesla basically spends a lot of the electrical energy in the batteries carting around the 540KG of batteries. It is the same reason why drones have very limited flight times compared to petrol/gas powered model aircraft,

Some solutions would be to accept the limitations and build your day around this. A lot of EV owners do this already. It isn't as much an issue if powered by 100% renewables. In fact arguably the only way you should use electric vehicles. Still an issue of rare earth materials and the supply chain to the renewable energy sector though. How many of SSE's vehicles are electric for instance.

Smaller batteries and an induction charging system on the road networks may be a solution. Probably very expensive.

Or...

We could use the fuel with the best specific energy on the planet, in normal combustion engines. Hydrogen. in before what about the Hindenburg, what about Galaxy note 7 and hover boards. What about every youtube video of someone lighting a bonfire soaked in petrol.

It is the most efficient fuel for a reason. It contains the most energy by mass. Granted safety vessel for storage and movement will need to be developed and will be.

But where will the hydrogen come form? Well right now in the U.K we have to have wind turbines turned off as there is too much energy available than demanded by the grid. If that energy was diverted to electrolysis plants we would essentially be storing green electricity from wind in a very efficient and light to transport fuel. But if all the money is spent on putting in street chargers for all the tenement dwellers in Glasgow and 5 story converted warehouse dwellers in Shoreditch, it will never happen.

Some Windows 10 Anniversary Update: SSD freeze

Linux and the abomination

I have a dual boot with Xubuntu 16.04 and the abomination version 10 (Abombv10) i call it, but Xubuntu had an issue with the displayport monitor not waking up from suspend, so was being lazy and using mainly Abombv10. When the anniversary update broke the abomination, I solely used Xubuntu. A quick google on the issue, a new update on a forum, a seamless kernel upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5 and displayport sleepy issue fixed.

The missus wanted to check her online banking, which for some reason she saved the details in edge not chrome. Had to restore the windows 10 from a backup, It auto updated again and died again.

If only game devs were not such big fans of the abomination, I would drop it completely.

Also I work in wintel as well as other techs.

BBC detector vans are back to spy on your home Wi-Fi – if you can believe it

I had a whole shpeel about written about the extortion of the licence fee, us being proles and using non payers court cases as propaganda to keep us paying. Then accidentally refreshed my page, twat.

They go through this charade of enforcement because if they gave us the choice by making it a subscription based service they would be bankrupt in a week. They need us to keep paying the licence fee, and fear is a good motivator.

Sadly it is just easier to pay the fee to keep the savages at Capita off your back than fight to prove against your assumed guilt if you don't have a licence. Hats off to you good people who do though and who don't watch teh BBC because it is a bit shit.

Whats worse, it will only get worse if it is a civil offence i.e. decriminalised, as you will be liable for Capita's court and lawyers costs if you are found guilty of non payment.

Not to give them any ideas but if I wanted to detect a stream I would add a udp packet watermark of a set length of packets in a set order that they could detect, even encypted. like 16 bytes data, 128 bytes data, 32 bytes data, 256 bytes data then 10 packets of 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 then 7 then 8 then 9 then finally 10 bytes of data. Even with encryption overhead you could work out the pattern.

At the end of the day it's a tax in the form of a licence. Cunts, take my £14 and leave me to my homes under the hammer.

Here's how police arrested Lauri Love – and what happened next

Re: Although the burden of proof lies with Love

There is no law I know of making you tell the police where you hid the shed key. The burden of accessing the shed is on the police. But it was the M.P's we voted in did this to us. Sorry the M.P's a minority of us voted in.

Lauri Love at risk of suicide if extradited to US, Brit court hears

Hangs head in apathy

Sometimes I am ashamed to be part of the IT/Tech communities, and its not because of what Lauri Love or Gary McKinnon did. The US government should take a long hard look at themselves if they are the ones who want justice for acts of computer mis-use or the illegal acquiring of personal or private material. Your American supplier????? You are not solely using EU suppliers? Remain traitor :)

I can see the headlines now:

1000's of UK voters details stolen because of incompetent IT managers decision to use cloud based service with no proper security audit, change control etc etc.

Or:

1000's of UK voters details stolen because of incompetent foreign IT cloud provider with poor security model, immigrant staff stealing data. Only noticed by hero Gov IT manager blah blah blah,

Depending on the paper yu are reading.

Half of UK financial institutions vulnerable to well-known crypto flaws

Guys I think we should all calm down a minute here, if you look at the report they have cut and pasted a Qualys SSL Labs score. You don't need to poke around anyone's web infrastructure. Just put the url into SSL Labs and they do it for you. By the way you should do it with any https sites you host.

Anyway cryptography relies on the being open to be tested to death, so vulnerabilities are outed quickly. The fact that some banks are running with 3 year old vulnerabilities should be criminal.

It is not even difficult to protect against Poodle and Crime. 3 seconds on google will tell you all you need to know.

I've got a £10 on padydpower.com that the end of world will be caused by an NSA released malware that accidentally infects and renders useless all internet core routers. They gave me 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000\1 :)
