Revealed: The true horror of being a big CEO

Pisartis

This ended at seven o’clock, after which Hurd had a steak dinner with a member of staff and, we imagine, a massive shit.

What makes you think the staff member is a massive shit?

iOS 9 kludged our iPhones, now give us money, claims new lawsuit

Pisartis

IOS9 works fine on my 4S. It works fine on my iPad 2 too.

Both devices might be fractionally slower than when they ran previous versions of the OS, but it's pretty hard to tell. I've probably got UI animations disabled (don't remember changing any settings specifically for IOS9), but I did that anyway long ago.

I honestly had no idea there was any sort of issue running IOS9 on this hardware.

Competition pushing innovation

See, if Tim Worstall was still writing here we could have had a long, interesting article demonstrating how New Shepard was pushing SpaceX along, and vice-versa.

Amazon's new drones powered by Jeremy Clarkson's sarcasm

Re: Clarkson

As Top Gear was the only BBC show I ever watched; and as there is no chance of me watching anything featuring the ginger twat, I've now deducted the entire cost of the telly tax from my telly tax.

I've unplugged the aerial and ignored the frequent nastygrams.

Bacon as deadly as cigarettes and asbestos

Pisartis

Why does anyone still listen to these prodnoses? We've only just recently heard that the War On Butter And Cheese was nonsense.

So now they're turning their attention to bacon. The correct response is to just ignore them.

And there's no way I'm going to sell digital services to another EU country, because I'm buggered if I'm going to register for VAT in 28 countries.

UK, fine. Rest of the world, fine. The rest of the EU can take a running jump.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

I, ROBOT ~ YOU, MORON. How else will automated news work?

Pisartis

"it sets out to identify the moronic gullibility of social network users rather than catch liars in the act of making speeches in the House."

Spotting liars in the House is easy though - the robot just has to identify moving lips.

But then, identifying moronic gullibility on social networks should also be easy. Spotting intelligence and erudition there, now that's tricky!

Don't pay for the BBC? Then no Doctor Who for you, I'm afraid

Axe the Telly Tax

And the sooner the better!

I can't remember the last time I watched live broadcast BBC. Yet I've still got to pay the telly tax if I choose to get my idiot-box entertainment from elsewhere.

At the risk of giving them ideas, it's the equivalent of forcing everyone to pay for a copy of the Guardian before they're allowed to buy any other paper.

Re: Amazon Seller Account

"If you really want to fuck something up, put a government in charge."

So in response to the SJWs whining about Amazon & co "not paying any tax" - those cretins in Brussels designed a law that will put the small companies and one man bands out of business, and have absolutely no effect on the Amazons.

Re: Guillotine ...

When private sector companies screw up in a big way, the people responsible tend to need a new job. Either because they were fired, or because the entire company went tits-up.

When was the last time you heard of a civil servant being fired for spaffing billions on a failed project?

Google policy wonk patronises Brits over EU search biz probe

Pisartis

If Microsoft (and their shills) want to knock Google off their position as default search engine, it's very simple. All they need do is create a better one that more people want to use.

Instead they go whining to the bureaucrats. Apparently the big bully was horrid to them and wouldn't let them play on their front page, or something.

French Senate passes anti-Amazon amendment

Re: I live in France and I'm happy with this

My reading skills are fine thank you.

As are my browsing skills - amazon.fr has plenty of second hand books on offer.

Pisartis

Re: I live in France and I'm happy with this

Quite. It's revealed preferences in action (ie, how people actually spend their money rather than how they say they do.)

Pisartis

Re: I live in France and I'm happy with this

So what you're saying is, everyone in France should have to pay more for their books so that you can feel good about going into a bookshop?

Re: Love my C720

I bought mine (Samsung series 3 with built in UMTS) as an experiment to see how useful it was when on the road. Works so well for everything I needed that I was able to leave my MacBook Pro at home and just use the Chromebook.

It's not going to be the tool for the job if you want to run Photoshop. But for web browsing, email and as an ssh client it works great.
