My experience with Intel is that when they say they are 6 months from silicon but won't give a date, it means they are not actually working on it. They are just fishing for potential customers to size the market.

Re: Vinyl tinted glasses

I have a Sony CDP-690. The remote control was a little smaller than the MD player ones (I have those too). It seems like a reasonable compromise between enough buttons to be useful, but not enough to make the remote ridiculous. Seems, but is not. The later MD remotes were much better for entering text. What would have been really great is a Bluetooth link to the year 2015 so we could use a full keyboard from Logitech or something.

Same thing in Canada. Also, the relevant Act overreaches horribly. It gives jurisdiction over all use of math and physics to solve real world problems to the local band of incompetents that run the professional organization. It should be repealed and replaced with something less asinine.

Forget One Windows, Microsoft says it's time to modernize your apps

Re: complex apps

Yes, MS' "modern" application lifecycle management strategy is straight out of PalmOS.

They seem to have forgotten that it's the OS's job to do this shit.

In my experience, any system designed to allow non-coders to do any kind of application or data maintenance ends up being used solely by coders anyway.

Windows 8 has driven me to take the unusual step of buying an Apple MBP. OSX takes some getting used to, but it seems to work fine. I like the giant multi-touch trackpad, except for dragging stuff. There's probably a dozen more hotkeys I need to learn.
