There was a Reg article last week which I poo-poo'd somewhat in which the write suggested Google grow up and get a clue. My retort was to suggest that perhaps the writer didn't in fact know Google's entire gameplan so couldn't possibly have valid comment, especially as they were comedy-bidding on Nortel.
Obviously Google have given a lot of thought as to which path to take and successfully bumped up the Nortel price to its competitors while getting a deal in place with IBM IP and now the acquisition of Moto Mobile who are surely one of THE oldest players in mobile and must have a serious IP portfolio.
I submit that Google in fact have been very grown-up all along and have a clear strategy with which to move forward as I suspected (and I'm sure many others did too).
So. There you go.

I'd be very surprised if it turned out that Google really hadn't a clue what they were doing with all this. My personal opinion is that co's like Apple are looking at the next payday with greed and maintaining immediate market position as a priority where Google are playing the long game and have already looked 3 moves and 4 patent layers deeper.

You'd have to make a pretty creative argument to convince a jury (and a judge) that those excerpts show that they know they're infringing a patent.
One says go the MS route or perhaps niggle a few people, the other says they should maybe consider negotiating a license for their needs which are unspecified in the excerpt and could be anything.
Expect Oracle to interpret it as proof of kitten-murdering regardless, though.

I hope the W3C come up with some method of meaning HTML5 compliance is somehow implicity licensed until explicitly revoked then Jobs' company can be kicked back to the internet stoneage overnight at will if they want a pissing match.

Surely if you'd not bought into Apple and gone Android earlier you'd actually have the choice of a good number of different devices to run your Android apps on?
I'd expect to be able to retrieve my paid-for Android apps for reinstallation if I changed from my HTC to a Samsung, though admittedly haven't had to try it yet.
You just bought into a (more) locked-down closed platform.
They'll immediately ban EU flights into the USA costing EU airlines a shitload of money and EU companies too.
Then they'll have to give in and allow the data so flights can resume and demand equally silly quid pro quo stuff.
Don't buy from US companies (Kraft, Apple, MuckDonalds, MS, etc). Then EU companies have less reason to deal with the USA, meaning flights to the USA become less important and tourists will always find somewhere else to fly to... Yeah some stuff is really US-only like CPU's but you can always buy a SONY or Samsung laptop to keep it in, HTC / LG instead of Apple or Motorola, etc...
The yanks.gov will do whatever they want regardless but consumers don't have to help fund their economy.
