Iranian gov mouthpiece Press TV finally gets taken off the air in the UK

Chad H.

@ F111f

If you turn to the right, the centre appears on your left,

On your liberal bias claims I refer you to the book "lies and the lying liars who tell them" by al Franken. Franken took on the alleged liberal bias heads on, looking at the number of pro gore and pro Clinton news reports, and anti ones. In almost all cases there were more anti than pro.

Ero, either Gore and Clinton are conservative, or it's all in your head.

Chad H.
WTF?

errr

Exactly what Ideology are CBS and NBC motivated by?

As for BBC and NPR, if "to educate, inform and entertain the public" is an ideology now, I think I have my new religion....

Chad H.

Errr

Isn't Fox News a comedy channel?

Apple CEO: 'Amazon Fire didn't dent our sales'

Chad H.

You act as if the majority of websites use flash for anything more than ads.

No flash messages for content in my experience are quite rare.

Any site relying upon a plug in, especially one as frustratingly buggy and hoggy as flash doesnt have anything worthwhile on it, from my experience.

Chad H.

Because

Despite popular belief here and elsewhere, boot everyone who walks into an apple store, and walks out with something, is a fanboy

Use iBooks Author, only Apple can ever publish the result

Chad H.

because of course

Apple should provide a free bit of software to allow you to create stuff for the competition... why?

Apple launches three-pronged education assault

FAIL

If you're so thick as to not like someone for the brand of product

Then I can't say that I'd want you to be my lawyer or doctor either.

Seriously, its a brand. get over it.

Chad H.
FAIL

@ Tom

Just how much "Off the top" are they giving to bookshops at the moment?

Or are you under the foolish impression the Bookshops are charities?

Chad H.

@ Tringle

Which Alternatives? Are we talking about Ebook readers with signidifantly less functionality, that can't in a pinch double as laptop (thus adding more portability, and more opportunity to write whenever), or other device?

Chad H.

@AC

Come now, be fair, if you want to talk about a "30% Apple Tax" because the publisher doesnt get 100% of the sale, I think you need to come here and tell us what level the "Bookshop Tax" is set at.

Here's a hint: Its probably more than 30%.

Chad H.

I disagree

The iPad seems to hit at least 3, with the 4th being very much dependent on your point of view. It stands up to my abuse (and believe me, abuse is the word) quite well, has great battery life, and is easy to update....

Chad H.

No, but

Its a completely different world from having to lug the textbooks around with you; and the iPad tends to be more useful in general than an eReader.

Chad H.

the iPad can read "Open standard" ebooks

Its up to the Author/Publisher what they want to use

Windows Phone to overtake iOS in 2015

Chad H.

A bit dilusional

I don't think its iOS that needs to worry about WinMob. iOS devices have been positioned in the market as being on the edge of a luxury phone (rightly or wrongly), whereas Android hasn't hit that mark, and just become an "everyphone everywhere" os.

WinMob is following the Android route to market. This analysis seems to be based on the faulty premise that 100+ Androids and 100+ WinMob phones are going to sell a certain number of handsets per model and thus drown out the handful of active models iOS - simply not going to happen.

Skype is coming to Windows Phone - really

Chad H.

@dogged

Its got nothing to do with "wiping them off the planet", more to the lack of real news-ability of reporting that some software is belatedly going to come to a particular also-ran phone OS.

Chad H.

Well

I'm sure all six Windows Phone users will be exited.

George Lucas: 'No more Star Wars'

Chad H.
WTF?

I do have to ask though..

What exactly is "RegHardware's" remit - I fail to see how entertainment news, even with the most liberal of interpretations, could be considered hardware.

George Lucas develops real live working R2D2, sure; but Lucas Retires from Big Budget Movies?

Experts: We're stuck with passwords – and maybe they're best

Chad H.

"Duress Passwords" aren't new...

If you shop with a CC (In the US at least - I havent been able to verify if something similar exists in the UK) and hear your clerk say the words "I have a Code 10 Authorisation Request" whilst manually attemping your payment, prepare yourself for a visit from the Fraud Squad...

GiffGaff boots freetards off mobile network

Chad H.
I think it comes down to where the data is being processed. If you are using an iPlayer app embedded on the TV, then the mobile is not consuming the data - the TV is, as that is where the data is being processed - the phone is just routing it if you're doing something like the iPad screen sharing stuff, then thats being consumed on the mobile device, rather than the TV.

Thats bad logic

By that logic, all I need is a glass staircase and I'll become a retail powerhose.

People don't buy Apple stuff because they have their own events. They buy it because they like the product itself, and like the user experience.

Ofcom grills pirates, loses report under fridge for two years

Chad H.

Really?

I used to do that. Then I found out I can create art instead - one HDD full of Pirated stuff = 1 art gallery masterpiece.

Chad H.

If those most likely to download are cash poor..

Then it just simply proves that DRM is nothing but snake oil. DRM exists supposedly to encourage them to buy (by presumably slowing down the release of pirated copies). Since these folk won't buy anyway spending money to dissuade piracy just results in lower overall profit thanks to the cost of DRM in the first place.

EU to push through more roaming caps in 2012

Chad H.
WTF?

So

This is the infamous free market at work... Delivering better solutions for the consumer through competition.

Ofcom's Local TV dream: No smut, an hour of news, endless ads

Chad H.
WTF?

Has anyone looked at these local stations in the US?

I know the idea of a TV network in the US is a bit different to what we currently have here in the UK (Ie- the network is only there pretty much during prime time), but some of them are doing something like 40+ hours of local news per week - is there really that much happening locally in these places?

Ofcom maps out what 'psychics' are allowed to do on TV

Channel 5 snubs Freeview HD again

Chad H.
Thumb Down

Perhaps its not that "we have enough television already"

But we have enough "Channel 5" already. I can't say I've ever heard anyone say "You know what I need to make my life complete, the same shows that I already watch on Channel 5, but in more visual detail".

Sony PSN class-action lawsuit ban prompts... lawsuit

Chad H.

But

In not accepting those terms and conditions arent you also preventing your PS3 playing future games as you wont be recieving any updates?

Preventions on using courts to settle disputes, or class action lawsuits should be seen as the unconciounable terms that they truly are.

Deutsche Telekom: 'FCC, DoJ didn't give AT&T deal a chance'

Chad H.

You miss the point Arctic fox

The Government can't argue to its courts that there will be a decrease in competition if the merger goes ahead, if there is going to be the exact same decrease in competition anyway.

The German government, as DT's biggest shareholder, wants DT out of T-MUS - and as quick as you please.

Parody is illegal, say barmy bureaucrats

Chad H.

Sheer nonsense!

If there's no point in being a songwriter of there's no copyright protection, then in forced to infur that there must have been no songs written before copyright laws. Since we know this isn't true inn forced to call shenanigans on that.

In fact many well loved traditional songs have been built upon the tunes of others... Heck Americans sing "My Country tis of the" to the same tune an englishman asks god to save his monarch, so it all seemed to work quite well.

Many of our great myths and legends are from writers who took an old story or hero and created a new work.

Copyright is simply unnatural and a hinderance to the true creative arts, it's there just to make money. The true point in creating art should be the art, not the private jet.
