123 Reg suffers deja vu: Websites restored from August 2017 backups amid storage meltdown

Re: Why do people still use 123reg ?

Same reason people use the likes of Capita - the bad news stories don't get as far as we think.

Re: Market Saturation?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that my tablet is an i7 Surface Pro with 16 GB RAM. More than capable of anything I'm likely to throw at it.

Has a keyboard too - hence same thing, different form factor.

Re: Market Saturation?

It's less market saturation, more a change in how we use 'devices'. I no longer carry a laptop to meetings. Instead I have a tablet. Same thing, different form factor.

Bit like saying sales of cars declined just because we switched to hatch backs.

Azure Stack is about havine MS Azure in your own data centre. Nothing to do with hosting in the cloud as we currently understand it.

Europe plans special tax for Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon

Re: I'm not sure that targeting specific companies is the way forward.

It also misses out on the notion that Amazon's margins are a lot lower than Facebook and Google. Amazon actually have to buy stuff to sell (except for marketplace) whereas Facebook and Google have enviable gross margins.

Nope, with double entry book keeping, the server you bought has a value on the balance sheet. Tax credit in year one too.

Advantage of cloud is flexibility. If I opened an online shop, I'd want it to be on a cloud server just in case there was a sudden increase in sales. Cheaper than having spare hardware on standby.

Drivers retrain as mechanics

These things are going to go wrong. As the passengers don't own the vehicle, there's likely to be more wear and tear. Add to that the safety concerns and there are going to be frequent service intervals.

My Dad has a Kindle Fire HD. Lovely piece of kit - fast to respond and brilliant screen. Problem is that you have to use Amazon's own app store which is always slow to update. There are no end of car parks in York. Most with pay by phone options, all with all-day parking available.

Only issue I have is having a vehicle that's 2.1 metres high as some are height restricted to 2m or less.

AMBxx Silver badge

Re: And where will they be?

I went past some charging points in York the other day. Limited to one hour. Therefore, you'd have to park your car, go to work/shops, return after an hour, hope another parking space available.

Still doesn't add up beyond a daily commute with charging at home, overnight.
