Lawyers and GDPR.

why should lawyers of any type have automatic access to personal information.

They should have to go to court like anyone else and get a court order to access this information.

If they have reasonable grounds then they will be given a court order for the information and then the registrar will be required to release this information.

this should stop fishing expeditions by lawyers.

If ICANN or individual registrars decide that organisations or individuals (lawyers of the IWF) are allowed direct access then this should be challenged as not complying with the GDPR.

Modular design

Whats needed is a Modular design with a small, fast, secure OS BASE with minimal rubbish on top and All extras as user / Administrator add on modules. so By Default

NO Cortana

NO Xbox integration.

One Browser probably Spartan (with option to dump it if you want to use a 3rd party one instead.)

NO Office or trial software.

No bloated Media centre.

NO extra unnecessary drivers.

ONE UI !!! (no schizophrenia, if the user wants it let them install it)

as well as a smaller install it also gives a smaller attack surface for malware on the base system.

Everything else can be downloaded as needed after first install, allow backups of app data to one drive / cloud / exterior storage so a restore can be done from the "app store" and off device backups after recovery of the on device base install.

"Slap Head" as its although its a good idea ridding the OS of bloat will never happen.

FIDO offers alternatives to fingerprints

I dont want to use fingerprints due to the well documented copying and using of "fake" fingers to access systems protected by fingerprint reader and the simple fact you leave copies of your fingerprints everywhere so there are many sources of getting the image to fake.

FIDO does allow for alternative forms of biometric authentication or for one time keys generated by a dongle.

The dongle method could be stolen and eventually im sure they will become cloneable.

I Am looking at http://www.eyelock.com/ where video of your eye is used to allow authentication. i dont like the large round design of the current model but hope the unit will come smaller and less conspicuous as they have already made demonstration models that fit in the frame of a laptop screen. so hope monitors will start to ship with this technology pre installed.

Its rather Obvious to the real user if their EYE has been removed to use by a nefarious person to use for authentication unlike fingerprints!

Re: Yes But...

"Ok, hands up all those here that will turn this off right after installation?"

I hope that we have the option to turn this off BEFORE installation !!

default = all the BLOAT microsoft can throw at you

Custom = allowing you to install a small fast OS base with minimal rubbish on top.

NO Cortana

NO Xbox integration.

NO linked Microsoft Account When logging on locally.

NO defaulting to share everything and save to the Cloud by DEFAULT.

Just a basic good stable machine like i currently use on Windows 7 (after a bit of Litening) like i would allow users to run in the Office, just @ home.

LETTING THE CUSTOMER CHOOSE i know its such an outdated concept but GUESS what IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!

IoT Communications

I want all my IoT devices in my house to talk to a Hub located in my house, controlled by ME (OK the wife) and only communicate to the outside world what i say it can when i say it can. (in reality that will be Bu**er All)

Also all devices that are not mobile by design EG fridges, washing machines, boiler, solar panels, ground source heat pump, lighting, cooker, ETC to be connected by a very old fashioned item called wire. Cat 6a should do for now I don't think i need fibre to the fridge (FTF) just yet.

all communication can then be done through my network and out through the router over ADSL or if that fails through the GSM/LTE gateway attached to the Asterisk server.

Re: Doom for US tech companies

I think this will depend on who has the bigger stick to wield over the company the "Good ol" USA or the EU.

As these warrants or whatever letter is used to get the tech company to provide the data from the EU data centre, i guess that the local company may be in breach of EU data protection regulations for giving out the information without a LOCAL issued warrant so are the CEO and board of the company more worried about fines from the EU or sitting in the clink in some super max prison in the middle of Nevada with Bubba as a cell mate. and as they probably reside in the USA they will be more scared or personal risk than company risk.

the only way Microsoft can win trust from non USA customers (even USA Customers :-( ) and show they actually have the rights and data of their clients as a priority and to "protect" their bottom line ie the freedom of their bosses is to bring out the next generation of Windows (WITH A START BUTTON) and software like office to include local strong encryption of data BEFORE any of it is loaded in to ANY cloud so only the user has the key. and to implement Dark mail in to outlook and Exchange for good measure.

Fine for breaking the Law in the national Park

So the usual fine for breaking this park rule is Jail, a $2000.00 fine and the loss of your gear. I wonder if the park rangers will be enforcing this rule in the same way with the same vigour as they do against other people who break this rule.

they will Hunt you down and Taser you or chase you in to the River to drown if you resist or try to run.

Re: Goddammit...

As if we didn't see this mission creep coming when it was described as "Family Friendly Filters" well im a single grumpy old man so I'm not having this and my MP who happens to be DC can go JUMP but wont be welcome at any exit point i know of.

If they start banning Base Jumping sites my personal site will be shut down and i will need to purchase a VPN to tunnel to a more liberal country like north Korea or Iran. :-(

i will be telling my isp (a wholly owned subsidiary of BT) that i DO NOT want to have family friendly filters on my internet connection i dont want ANY filters and will only accept blocking of sites that have been subject to a court order allowing them to individually be blocked like the pirate bay and newzbin2. I think that is reasonable.
