Volvo tries to KILL SHOPPING with to-your-car Roam Delivery

solo

Didn't get what they solved

I didn't get the whole simple thing :o

Is it similar to scene that a shopper purchases online for self-pickup and while outside mall he calls the shopkeeper that his car is in right corner of the parking? Or, may be that i am in office 9 to 5 and my car will be outside in parking and the guard has the key?

If no, I am completely dumb, sorry.

If yes, they are completely dumb to waste on this research, sorry.

Microsoft may slash price of Windows 8.1 on cheap 'slabs

Make it free

I had always thought it justified that Microsoft (or any company) sells a product for a price (in cash).

But, since MS also collects users' data to "..improve users' experience.." now, it has no right to charge (in cash) now.

" .. but the media and some clerics have successfully managed .."

Then make fun of the media and clerics and don't call it an irony, because you just admitted the source itself is not to be blamed (at least it this case).

Outrageous

Long gone is the saying "..if .. free .. you are the product.."

Now, no matter how much money you pay, you are still a product.

All the advancement in technology in the last decade has been in the reverse direction.

- Caching was supposed to be a short term fix in the era of dial up modems.

- Secure transmission was the dream of the society

- Even end users' browsers were not trusted back then to allow the local resource sharing

See where we stand now :(

- Emergency First Response

But yes, saving these cute robots from the fans may require iRobot 710 Warrior. Let us hope the Brazilians don't give them an excuse to start the rising.

How many mobile apps collect data on users? Oh ... nearly all of them

Re: A Killer App Opportunity...

Re: How many mobile apps _have the opportunity to_ collect data on users?

" .. once the developer goes for an ad-supported model, they have no further say .."

If you (developer) are selling guns you have to make sure these are not the illegal models.

If you are distributing free rice bowls (free app developers), you have to make sure these are not rotten.

solo

Wrong expectations

The app stores (iOS, Android and Win), all have very strict guidelines and threaten rejection as their favorite actions in case of suspicious permissions list. That is the whole point of trusting a store, right?

What causes the fall out is they are unwilling to enforce that just for the sheer numbers. So, it's a case of false advertising on part of these big players.

Thumb Down

Re: Hmmm...

In the countries where WhatsApp is popular, the paid apps are not bought (for less reach to the payment methods). So, I was already wondering how many of my friends would retain WhatsApp as the year end was near for them. I had always anticipated some dramatic event (suddent closure of the service or sell out), when the largest chunk of it users'd reach the first payment deadline.

So, here we are. And I am on $1bn bet that WhatsApp will be made free. After all it has the richest daddy in the world now :)

No, they are just teaching Google being more social. Actually, they should have asked Google to post this on G+, Picasa, Drive, Docs and each service involved in the merged policy.

Even better, does G+ has some feature equivalent to FB Timeline?

It is easier for Google for sure. But, the point is that all of its services started at different point of time and the users were not initially aware that they'd be forced to be consumed (yes, you know you are their product bro) by their other products.
