I have had users on at least 2 occasions insert floppies into the slot above the drive. I was called in once several disks had been eaten.

Tsohost - you mean that company who used to be Webfusion with decent 24/7 support by phone for dedicated servers, who downgraded everything to web ticket only support, but only business hours, every second saturday 3-4.45pm and Sunday lunchtimes in every 5th leap year.

Re: So...

We are using A&A at work. no complaints, as its only gone down once or twice in two years, Once due to a failed power supply on a firebrick and that was replaced in 24hrs. Great customer service with named individuals who actually know what they are talking about. Expensive compared to others but worth it when things go wrong.

Yup. And look what he did for the computer industry.

How many crowd funding companies or 'unicons' fail to product anything worthwhile? At least Sinclair and Elon Musk have done (and did) something towards fulfilling their promises.

Re: How pathetic is this?

Well we don't live in a country with laws that appear to allow a legal gun owner to walk into a school and kill groups of children.

We had one nutter who did that and we did something about it

The reason for not running along the runway was if the line was displaced either side, then you miss completely. If you hit it at an angle, the chances are great for a hit if you are displaced left or right.

Re: No FTTC for us

We have exactly the same problem. Cabinet other side of the street for the domestic users FTTC - the industrial estate this side - zip, we are lucky with 4mb, we can have fibre, for £17000 install, and because the 'street' has fibre BT class it as 'available', so we will never get any realistic speeds on our estate - so we have 3 BB lines, two bonded, just to get a reasonable service that is just about workable.

At home? we get VM cable at silly speeds for £40pcm

Re: Re:Linux running most of the world's servers

Totally agree, as I have two CNC machines in our shop, both running on XP machines and no route for upgrades - even basic elements in relation to direct access to serial and parallel ports cause issues with modern hardware.

Maybe he should strap the willing dev to the front of the machine for testing - if the drive is screwed, then so is the dev - literally!!!

Those that can do.... that that can't teach....

I agree that the show has no real bearing on business apart from showing how easy it is to make basic mistakes, but then it is supposed to be entertaining rather than 'how to set up in business'. It is also edited with a severe slant on making some people look good and then slamming others.

As to the Prof, I wonder if he has ever run his own business, or even had a job outside academia.. as they say those that can, do, those that can't .....
