The immovable object versus the unstoppable force: How the tech boys club remains exclusive

Re: Misguided

I don't. She is a clueless child with empty words that ignore the gravity of any solution that would take her seriously (e.g. the destruction of the World Economy, etc.). I mock her abusive parents for subjecting this child to public puppetry (and she is also on the autistic spectrum so easy prey to manipulators). I find it astonishing that people cannot see the clear parallels with Islamic radicalisation - brainwashed kids being used by dark forces.

Re: Misguided

A solution requires a problem. Is this a problem? As mentioned elsewhere females are not choosing (note that word carefully!) to do STEM and are choosing (note that word carefully!) to move from technical work (with little social interaction) to analysis/management work (with lots of social interaction). I don't think we need any solution where there is no problem in the first place.

Re: Misguided

Or maybe females simply are not interested in IT?

Re: Misguided

Exactly! And if Male/Female STEM students are 80%/20% then why would anyone with half a brain expect more than 20% female representation on STEM-oriented companies?

Re: Misguided

So you slap 'you' in the face - 'you' being completely innocent boys??? This reminds me of my (long ago dumped) Irish Catholic upbringing when we were all told we were BORN with ORIGINAL SIN. I really cannot believe the stupidity, arrogance and frankly fascist remark here.

You need to very carefully read the full comments here - you appear to be a tad out of touch with reality.

Re: Good work MET Police

Nope if they have completely turned the citizens against them which they have monumentally succeeded in.

Re: Good work MET Police - Crime Prevention

Sorry Sherlock - C is illogical - "arrested for ... without being arrested"

Re: Good work MET Police

I would give them 5 years community service continuously flapping their arms to generate ecologically sound electricity to power electric airplanes

Re: Good work MET Police

I would order them to dismantle their drones in public and then reassemble them again (in public). James May would be the Judge. Any of them failing this simple test would go to an asylum for life.

Re: Lithium Ion Is not the answer

@Anonymous, can you please supply the sources of where you obtained that information? I am a statistician by trade so fundamentally suspicious and always on the look-out for the Ministry Of Truth which this sounds like ...

Computation is not prose or poetry. It either works or it does not. It is rarely beautiful

Yep I have to agree - its the muppets who think they are Gods - the language makes it easy for clueless Millennials to convince themselves they are developers. They are not.

It's Galileo Groundhog Day! You can keep asking the same question, but it won't change the answer

Re: "We have to look at the clouds, no-one's allowed to look for silver linings these days."

Well sadly I can't see a single benefit. I'm Irish but lived in England for nearly 10 very very happy years and both of my kids were born in England so I have great love for the green and pleasant land. The unfortunate fact is brexit was created by the have-nots of the UK (mainly England) so those people don't give a rat's about the implications because they had no buy-in anyway. I do agree that given this context leadership is desperately needed but not there which is a real shame. However, I for one have great confidence in the British people and I think the *actual* people will pull through in the end, even with appalling leadership.

Re: World's cleverest company states the obvious

Ha I totally agree - I'm 25 years in IT and this is such a hopelessly obvious conclusion - reminds me of 'The Spy who shagged me' where Dr Evil (who went to evil college you know!) came up with that such complex and obvious solution to kill our hero that we knew for sure it would end in FAIL - wonder how much shareholder value Google squanders on such lame nonsense?
