Without any apparent irony, Google marks Chrome's 'small' role in web ecosystem

Slow web sites

They could just look for "wp-includes" in the code.

Two years ago, 123-Reg and NamesCo decided to register millions of .uk domains for customers without asking them. They just got the renewal reminders...

No Quarter

Shopping cart

And they add the names to your shopping cart whether they are marked to renew or not. That has to be fraud.

Facebook: Yeah, we hoovered up 1.5 million email address books without permission. But it was an accident!

No Quarter

Too late

If you are on Whatsapp then Facebook have your address book anyway.

Congrats from 123-Reg! You can now pay us an extra £6 or £12 a year for basically nothing

Re: OK. Calm down. Fake news etc.

Yeah, but no, but yeah.

If I can extract the truth then surely The Register could have managed it. They are a reputable news outlet that has just scared lots of people into thinking they are being forced to pay £6 a year when they aren't.

No Quarter

OK. Calm down. Fake news etc.

I have contacted the muppets at 123-reg.

This actually only applies to domains that have "Domain Privacy" enabled.

Their email and this article are therefore misleading.

That's the same company as 123-reg.

Re: How do they know...

I can tell a Wordpress site as easily as anybody. I was talking about the bespoke CMS that I use on many of my sites.

No Quarter

How do they know...

...whether sites run a CMS or not? Many of my sites do but you would never know looking at the source code.

So the suits swanned off to GDPR events leaving you at the coalface? It's really more IT's problem

Not looking forward to it on my PC.

123-Reg customers outraged at automatic .UK domain registration

No Quarter

How much

I have been a customer of theirs for 18 years but am seriously looking for somewhere else after their repeated price hikes. .co.uk now £23.98 for two years.

Have never bought a .uk name by accident though. Even for free.

WordPress photo plugin opens 'a million sites' to SQLi database feasting

It would be easier if the Register would report when they find Wordpress plug-ins that are not vulnerable.

Thin end of the whatsit.

Can wholly understand the password and credit card part but keen about the roadmap wanting all web sites to have a security certificate in the future. It is another cost to most web site owners for very little apparent benefit.

Re: Try leaving

It's a rubbish service but it is extremely simple to change nameservers, change the IPS tag or get an Auth code in 123-reg.

I wouldn't dream of letting them host anything but there is never an issue transferring domains away from them. Unlike some of their competitors.

Vodafone's network has actually worsened in the areas I used to use it until I changed to EE a month ago. I now have up to 90Mbps in the countryside *and* I can make calls. Before I had EDGE if I was lucky and could only make calls indoors with the help of a femtocell.

The choice is between an intermittent 1990s service with Vodafone or a ubiquitous LTE service with EE.

Reg mobile man: National roaming plan? Oh UK.gov, you've GOT to be joking

No Quarter

You are right, and this point seems to been completely ignored by the media. The Register normally does a better job of not jumping on the bandwagon.

If the (possibly mandated) cost to the telco of paying another telco to provide a service to its customers is great enough then there is plenty of incentive to maintain and create masts.
