No. I simply got tired of the bullshit coming out of Redmond that I went to Linux, eventually staying with Kali.

Let's see.

That would make:

Adobe == Famine, Always needing more.

MicroS == Pestilence, Going it's own way and dragging you along.

Oracle == War, Still can't get that patch right.

FBI == Death,Death of freedom and civil rights by way of backdoors. Remember WE are the good guys, BECAUSE WE SAY SO!!!!!!!

What is the shell?

Writer needs to find out what a shell is. Calling awk, grep, and sed shells is like calling print an OS. Article clearly written by a PR flack with little experience with admin. Also if it is open source where can I get the source code, without registering my email and personal info like at MS.

GNOME Problem...

I have given up on the GNOME people. The 3.20 desktop has less functionality than the 3.12, or even 2.xx, because they have decided what you want. Like Microsoft you will do it their way or no way. Also I have had problems with the GDM3 crashing, the error message is so helpful "OOP's an error has occured." I am currently using Kali 2.0 with an added Mate desktop and LightDM launcher.

Odd sizes...

Once called in to help setup a accounting system that some one had bought from another company, back before Peachtree or Quickbooks. It printed all of the invoices on a 'special' size of paper available only from the parent company.Heh. I quickly figured out that changing the font size from 15 to 12 solved the problem. Printing cost went from approx. $80 a box to only $25. Unfortunately though I had saved the company thousands my billable hours were only one.

Remember to good of problem solving skills will only get you broke or arrested.

Re: How do I order a new keyboard online if this one is broken?

I stole, yes stole, an AT&T keyboard almost twenty or more years back. Off of some redundant kit that was being disposed of. It has the best feel and response ever! Most modern keyboards are of pitiful quality and it shows. One of my quick/quirk judgement of a laptop is if it has full height arrow keys, if not then it is sh!te. I don't care how super duper the screen is, how light weight the kit is, or how touchable the lcd is. As a CLI touch typest, maybe that should be a type (of) pest? The feel of the keyboard is of prime interest. This means that I am often reduced to 'business' level computers rather than 'gaming' level power.

It is interesting to note where some of the 'quality' manufactures cut corners.

UCLA shooter: I killed my prof over code theft

channel extended
IT Angle

Doctoral students routinely have their code, data,or ideas stolen. It is a feature of the educational system. Dr's are promoted, protected, tenured by what new ideas they produce and the temptation to steal from from a student is very large, I'm not saying he did, but I'm not saying he didn't. If he did then there are probably more people who have a beef with him.

The code may have been trivial, who knows? Like you know, Flash.

US computer-science classes churn out cut-n-paste slackers – and yes, that's a bad thing

My experience is Payroll.

When I was in uni , late 1970's, the very first program we had to write when learning a new language was a payroll program. EVERY language. Even IBM 360 assembler!!! It was what the business communites wanted at the time. Who needs a payroll prog now? Plus with all of the new regulations it is not possible for a student to write one in a semester, even if that was all they were doing. Allowing ANY single org to direct your learning is a good way to become redundant.

Official: Microsoft's 'Get Windows 10' nagware to vanish from PCs in July

channel extended
Happy

Re: Why July

Dwarf, as a fellow traveler in time. I started with an early S-100 box. I agree that people are funny about handles, mine is based on my number one problem for the past twenty years. Besides if I claimed the "True Sex God" some one would request citation, and I'm not that type of public person. My last version of Windows is 7 running in a vm. The last machine I've had running windows alone is a Windows 2000 box. Yes I had a bit of learning to do to get Linux running and to keep it running. I currently am using Kali for work and have used everything from LFS or Gentoo stage one tarball, to Ubuntu or Mint. All have quirks.

MS motto is "There is a right way, a wrong way, and the only(MS) way."

Linux motto is "There is no single right way, plenty of wrong ways, and your way."

Pick your poison, position!
