Q. What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?
A. The pricks are on the outside of a porcupine.
"Remember it this way: 'shiny side up'."
Don't forget "White light(s) to the front."
My (tentative) answer: Errrrmmm... buy Montana?
You know you gotta Ma-Ma-Ma Belle, or I will get you...
The Fink Ployd reference was excellent!
Good to hear that those who are trying to help us plebs stay safe are aware that the plebs can often expose vulns.
Who can tell these days?
Meh - sooner or later, the whole damn thing will fall apart.
Errr... take his/her cut?
I'm not defending Venezuela's government.
However, I wonder how they would fare had not the US not interfered in their affairs.
If they fail because their premise was wrong, that's one thing. If they are fail because of another government's interference, that's another.
Just my 2p.
Since Feinstein has been "properly apprised" of the details, there can surely be no problem.
'Course, the details would include whatever "dirt" they have on her.
Meanwhile. back at the ranch...
Tonto, completely unaware of the Lone Ranger's attempt to disguise himself as a door, shot the Ranger's knob off.
"Stop following the flock."
Glad to... get the flock outta here!
"Boaty McBoatface was fun, but enough is enough. Or after this story. surely it is?"
No. 'Nuff said.
The "incumbents" have siphoned off "how much?" to "improve services", and have actually delivered "WTF?". Oh yeah, the C-Levels are enriched - "I forgot". And, let's not hurt the politicos, eh?
When will the customers (no - not "consumers") get what their tax dollars have been paid for?
Bread! Small rocks!
"Maybe it's time to force cable companies to allow others to use THEIR WIRES..."
Hmm, WHOSE wires? Who REALLY paid for the wires? I suspect that taxpayers did, in the long run.
What a fustercluck.
Four legs good, two legs better!
If I must choose between breast or thigh, I'll always choose thigh.
That said, I'm partial to the "Wishbone".
It could be someone else has made a similar post... TL;DR, it's "late" here, etc, etc.
WTF? Who wrote this "software"? Microsoft?
Just send me a bit of money (say, 10%) of what's been spent... I can "not deliver" with the best of them, and I'll quickly bow out (and retire in a manner to which I would like to be accustomed).
After all, 640k is more than enough for anyone...
The Senator is only enraged when HER communications, information, or privacy are affected, you silly peon. Now, go away or I shall mock you again.
Are you a some kind of silly human who expects some dignity, privacy, and rights? Pfft! Get over it, or win a Senate seat.
Sorry, but the self-ascribed description "Barrier Breakers" is close, but no cigar.
From my perspective, it's more like "Bernie Bashers".
Damn it all. At least Sanders has principles. I can't say that I agree with him on all (perhaps most) issues, but he IS talking about the rigged system, and the money (and entities controlling money).
How can "rational" people allow big money and "the powers that be" advance Hillbillary? Let's all recognize her for the corporate shill that she is, and will always be. Let's start talking about the real problem, that the USA (hell, the whole world) is under the control of a handful of individuals? Money talks, and HC walks (in the direction and manner dictated by the money). Let's talk about her policies and actions, which have resulted in so much heartache in non-US countries.
Can you say little (and poor) people are El Fucked? I knew you could!
If it weren't for the (rightly expressed) derision on The Reg, I wouldn't have the slightest clue who most of those twits are... I don't click on "news" links about people who are (evidently) popular (self promoted?). I often see their names, but they only seem to be a part of some strange "fandom" and "popular media" interest, and only serve to distract people from reality. Is there anything worthwhile that they've done? What is the excitement all about? Two months ago, I finally discovered why I kept hearing (reading?) about "Kardashians". I thought it was some reference to an obscure SciFi series. Geez! Who gives a shit? Have any of them made a positive influence on society or humanity?
Never thought I'd agree with an oppressive government's policy... (and, I still don't)
"Windows, still held together with tape and bailing wire."
As an IBM Field Engineer explained to me, decades ago:
"Well, here's your problem. Yeah, someone found and fixed the physical interlock failure, but they used amateur (Scotch) tape! You have to use professional (filament) tape!"
Sure enough, filament tape enabled us to get through the night, until parts arrived the next day.
I miss "Earl the Pearl" (the IBM FE). He was a common sense farm boy, and impressed me with his ability to get things working until parts could be obtained and installed. I remember him scavenging batteries from our company cars and using vise grip pliers (for clamps) and spare wire to help us get through a different night, when a 24VDC supply went "South" and the replacement part wouldn't arrive for 12 hours.
@ Marketing Hack
"Or maybe just lobotomize them?"
From the immortal line delivered by Marty Feldman, in "Young Frankenstein":
HillBillary wants to maintain the status quo (and corporate 'merica) , while Sanders wants to level the field for US jobs for US citizens.
Joke 'em if they can't take a... wait... how does that go?
Rust Never Sleeps.
Thank you, Neil Young... I don't know if you realized how prophetic your lyrics were (or would continue to be). We STILL deal with a lot of crappage.
nah - "winding DOWN"...
"Same as it ever was - same as it ever was..."
Where the hell is that music when one needs it? (apology to Talking Heads).
" Harden up. "
err... Fartin' up?
And stains the gypsy drawers...
No - wait! It's "idjit".
Nah, that's not it, either... "pawn?"
Nope - "employee."
oh, never mind...
'USTelecom said: "The Federal Communications Commission's decision today to insert itself into how video should be delivered to American consumers is unlikely to serve consumers or competition ... The FCC's thumb on the scales will inevitably straightjacket innovation and harm competition, neither of which will serve the public interest."'
Let's refocus... on CUSTOMERS.
Geez, I'm getting tired of this refrain.
Bridge? Do you refer to the one that's in Arizona?
(with apologies to a certain Texas songwriter)
Sorry, mate... the Constitution is on hold at the moment. Please continue to hold for the next available representative.
Why sacrifice the hats? It's not like they won't still fit...
How the mighty have fallen... they screwed me & my mates more than 13 years ago during one of their (in)famous "restructurings".
And no, I don't wish to recount (or relive) the sordid details. I'll just let it go at "what goes around, comes around". They've thrown a lot of good services, technologies, and people under the bus for a long time.
@ Mark 85
"Some lasers can cut through a mirror. It depends on the type of laser."
Yeah, and also depends on the type of mirror :).
Not disagreeing, just sayin'...
Yeah, well... good f'ing luck with that...
If all the "terrists" do is to cut the video feed, I say "who gives a sh*t?"
The stupid bowl is such a non-event, and I don't understand all the hoohah.
WassamataU... having trouble with unexpected weight loss?
Uhh, TECHNOLOGY! That's how we'll fix it! Yeah, that's the ticket!
If guns are such a problem, how about we get the Secret (Cigarette?) Service to disarm?
It's easy for a US politician, surrounded by more firepower than any US citizen can ever HOPE to have, to tell everyone else to disarm.
What a bunch of "maroons".
(yes, I'm one of their current "victims" - I have NO CHOICE!)
I so wanted to chime in, and rant about the powers-that-be using "OMG - terrorists, child molesters, (insert popular criminal classes here)."
I believe that if (supposedly) rational and law abiding people succumb to invasions of privacy to "stop the XXX's", then the XXX's have won.
Your post sums up the situation eloquently.
Why isn't that lying sack of shit, that oath betraying motherfucker, NOT in a maximum security, "pound me in the ass", Federal prison, for a LONG time?
Goddamn traitor, betrayer of the Constitution he swore to uphold... that's what he is (and so many others are).
Wow, glad I was able to vent...
"I remember the program that was going to take over 24 hours to load a day's data into the replenishment system."
Or, in mainframe batch terms:
"Daily runs for a day, weekly runs for a week, and no one has ever completed an end-of-quarter."
This scenario really happened during a development project back in ~1985.
How do I hate the TPP? Let me count the ways...
Why in the effing HELL would I support an agreement that was negotiated in secret, and written by corporations who want to screw everyone on this planet? Why (as a US citizen) would I support a treaty that subverts the US Constitution (BTW, I hear YOU are a "Constitutional scholar")?
Get a damn GRIP! Let go of the effing MONEY, and do your damn job!
Speaking (writing) as a US citizen, I salute you!
My uncle, who served in the 1ST Cavalry in WWII, told me of his respect for Australians... He told me that they knew US History better than the "average" US citizen. He regaled me with stories of his time with the Australian troops.
He told me that he trusted the Ossies (sp?) over the masses in the US, because they were better people than many "Americans", better understood the difference between right and wrong, and were fiercely loyal to others.
I will always hold dear his stories of his dealings and friendships with Australians.
In your post, you've demonstrated your superior understanding of the fears and intents of the framers of the US Constitution. I thank you, and wish you well.
RIP Uncle Jim, and all his friends from Australia who have passed.
I've tried (and, to date, failed) to spread the word about flash to various government webadmins - this shite must be deprecated - no, must cease, ASAP.
A proprietary POS like flash is only (repeatedly) a vector for problems on the "web". I refuse to use flash. There are too many historical (hysterical?) problems, and there will continue to be problems with such dainbramaged BS on the web.
Government sites (never mind everyone else) should be MUCH more concerned about "open access" to content. Tying info (and the display of same) to closed formats is ludicrous.
Yeah. The implication is that the investigation(s) inhibit fiber build out - for which the big players have already been paid (with tax dollars, no less), but have yet to deliver.
How 'bout this:
NO FUCKING ADS, ASSHOLES!
Wow, I feel much better.
