Modern-day Frankenstein invents CURE for BEHEADING

Robocop?

I am in favour of getting a body manufactured, what needs work is the linking of the nerves to receptors in the robot body then the cycling of blood or some other fluid that could possibly be used that is immune to disease, then gaffer tape the head on...hey presto!!!

Win for Apple

I think the timing of this is hilarious. It's not long until Apple announce a new product line and this will stop people from being able to use anything older than an iPhone 4. Apple are innocent as they did not withdraw any of the old devices, the courts told them too. So sales of the newest shiniest gadgets will be higher than if the older, less shiny, gadgets were still available.

This is the way of the future and iMplant with a projection on your retina and audio installed in your jaw bone. Just not sure where they will stick the lovely fruity logo, may I suggest a tattoo on the forehead?

Once they are aboard, its very hard to switch brand :)

Touch and Talk

I think one of the best useability features would be if the side of the watch facing the wrist was a touch interface like the side of the Google Glass devices...would be very nice...

Want to scroll through an e-mail or text will enhance functionality.

Second, the ability to use voice recognition to avoid digging into your pocket to respond. Select 'reply', talk to the watch, it pipes to Siri or Google voice(?) and displays the text for you to see on screen...then send with a tap...no phone hauled out of pocket!

Eric Schmidt defends Google's teeny UK tax payouts - again

WTF?

Of course she pays tax

Most of these comments state that she pays NI on her miminum wage but then pays no tax. Well that is not how the system works legally....let me clarify:

How the system works legally:

She pays herself enough to be below the tax threshold so currently around £10K but will still pay NI on this.

Her Limited Company has to pay corporation tax, that's 20% of the company earnings.

She is also liable for personal tax on all earnings that fall over the higher rate earnings bracket which is about £45K so she would be paying 40% tax on £55K and if she falls into the 50% bracket then she pays even more.

There are strict rules to adhere to in order to benefit from the reductions in tax paid but they are government incentives for people who start and run their own companies, if the rules are adhered to then you can bitch and whine all you like but she is perfectly entitled to her earnings. Saying she doesn't pay tax is just nonsensical so please get your facts straight before you witter on about how unfair the world is. Starting your own company takes balls and a real drive, I know this because I have done just that and with a young family dependent on me. Anyone can do it, whether you succeed or not is usually down to the individual's capabilities.

Samsung vs Apple: which smartphone do Reg readers prefer?

Does it really matter?

I think the whole IOS vs Android or Apple vs Samsung pot has been stirred often enough for most people to just not really care anymore what others are going to buy or what the market share is. I used to argue with IOS fans (after I left the OS myself) about why Android was so much better but have come to the realization that I in fact don't care what anyone else uses, I don't care about market share of smartphones, don't care about the patent wars. I choose my mobile device based on what I want to be able to do and that's the end of it.

I DO, however, care about beer so if anyone wants to have an argument with me over a few ales, let me know.

Thumb Up

And there is the answer

My thoughts exactly, I have been working on the infrastructure side of IT for around 15 years with most of those years being filled with contractor roles for various companies around the world. I have spent the last 5.5 years in the UK and am now working just inside the M25 but not in London. In almost every environment that I have worked approximately 50% of the IT workforce were not very interested in IT, they got into the sector because it was 'easy money', and to be honest, it was. I stay in touch with some of these people and even though they hate their jobs and get little to no stimulation from going to work, when they move or are made redundant they go straight for other IT jobs and eventually they have all been re-employed and within a year are complaining...

Then you get the others who are eager to learn, the infrastructure side of IT has change just as drastically but in a way that can make an average tech look good but without specialist skills and average tech will not be able to command a high salary (or should not). The specialists are the ones who build the infrastructure, who are self-training on, for example VMWare or Hyperv/Citrix and SAN storage and who are truly interested in the technology. The mediocre will support it once they have set it up and moved on to new projects...
