Everything Apple touted at WWDC – step inside our no-hype-zone™

Ribblethrop

Over in the US, 'El Capitan' is a rock formation in the Yosemite National Park.

Back here in Europe, 'El Capitan' is Francesco Schettino, captain of the ill-fated cruise ship Costa Concordia.

It will be hard to patiently wait for next years' 'Il Duce' release, and the Russian-only releases, 'Man of Steel', and 'Man of Fire'.

I'll get my coat.

Errant update borks Samsung 850 Pro SSDs

Ribblethrop

Is it really Samsung that are the shysters though, or the tech reviewers who lauded the drives as the best. One notable website changed tack to Samsung, recommending the latest drives after originally not doing, their cited reason: everyone else said Sammy's are the best, so we have altered our review to reflect that. Thanks Obama!

$533 MEEELLION – the cost of Apple’s iTunes patent infringement

Re: Gotta love Apple.

NObody makes that claim about x86, because it is from the 70s, Intels chip development was ludicrously slow, but like MS, they dictated what eveyone used. It became impossible for ARM machines to be manufactured due to this. Hopefully the decades of waste due to the US computer biz is mostly over. Oh wait! Thanks Apple.

Internet Explorer 12 to shed legacy cruft in bid to BEAT Chrome

This would be great if it was available for Windows Vista, because they never upgraded the browser for that and it is a POS. If they are going to do such a bad job of updating their software, they may as well give up and leave it to Mozilla.

Windows Message:

Sorry, this version of windows is not compatible with this version of Internet Explorer. And that is okay!

I preferred being able to right-click a link, and open that link in another tab. This no longer works for me

Re: Crown is correct

Crown is too diminuitive a word, because it is massive, like an enormous spare wheel on the back of a 4x4.

'The design of the 7.9-incher owes a great deal to the iPad Mini'

The internal components are from a similar tablet released to the market in 2011? Or the rounded corners? Little Johnny will surely be irate.

Apple spent just ONE DOLLAR beefing up the latest iPad Air 2

Re: Pah!

Most likely they upgraded the CPU and RAM because the old junk they used to slap in just are not made any more, like the old HDDs that were so popular in the iPod, when everyone else had moved to flash. If asbestos was still available they would probably use that instead of aluminium.

Re: I found it interesting

Oh I see! A smartphone could never do this. /sarcasm

BENDY iPhone 6, you say? Pah, warp claims are bent out of shape: Consumer Reports

Ribblethrop

Just because another aluminium phone has bent under less stress than an iPhone6+, this does not make the iPhone6+ any stronger.

While you queued for an iPhone 6, Apple's Cook sold shares worth $35m

Ribblethrop

The CEO of my previous company offloaded all his shares in a similar manner, just before anouncing our biggest IT project of all time was being completely binned due to cost overruns.

MOST iPhone strokers SPURN iOS 8: iOS 7 'un-updatening' in 5...4...

Waiting until 8.0.1 sounds like a good idea, the 0.1 update in the past has patched the worst of the security blunders.

SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD – courting speed freaks and gamers

Glad to see you did not measure the speed the cache is read at and the quote that as the speed of the drive, much better than the last SSD review you did.

A little while after posting in the comments today, my AV software flagged up this page and asked me to send them a sample. Never happened before. Are you been hacked by FB?

Great news!

Tor is '90 per cent of the net' claims City of London Police Commish – and he's dead wrong

I read that as 90% of peer-to-peer going through TOR.

BB10's 'dated' crypto lets snoops squeeze the juice from your BlackBerry – researcher

Ribblethrop

Great! Someone who knows what they are talking about who can explain security to us.

So, we all know the 'BEAST' attack leverages client side web-browser right( correct me whenever you can)?

And BB10 uses webkit based browser similar to Apple, OS X, Google, and Nokia, which was presumably patched 3 years ago by client side browser update.

So, how is it vulnerable to the attack? Just tested my browser and it seemed ok.

These 'My new phone is the best because of xyz' are too much. Consumer bias much?

Would this have been more appropriate on the chat forum?
