Xbox 180: Microsoft scraps mandatory Kinect policy

Shrimpling

The Xbox actually looks quite promissing for online games.

The cheaper console will end up with the more annoying online players because parents will buy whichever is cheaper over anything else. This will cause all the annoying kids to be playing on the PS4 meaning I can play on the Xbox one without them annoying me.

Most parents won't have seen all this rubbish about DRM or always on Kinect so won't have any prejudice against the xbox, its just that it costs more that the ps4 so they buy that instead. Why do you think the Wii sold so well compared to the more powerful ps3 and xbox 360?

Materials for building something like this shouldn't be a problem... Isn't Mars red because of the Iron oxide?

That said its not all positives building this on Mars... The sunlight is weaker by the time it reaches Mars, would they get enough sunlight to power it on the solar panels still?

Also, correct me if I am wrong, I don't think there are 2 large metropolitan areas that would like to be linked together in a quicker way on Mars yet. One of the 6 wheeled, nuclear engined vehicles will be enough for the foreseeable future.

Re: That $60 SONY want to play MP online...

Glad I could help.

I think the problem was they announced it at E3 while everybody was still going crazy over their DRM announcement meaning a lot of people missed it.

Shrimpling

Re: That $60 SONY want to play MP online...

The differences between Xbox Live Gold and Playstation Plus are gettings smaller all the time.

You may like to know that Microsoft have recently launched something they are calling Games for Gold that gets you free games if you have an xbox live gold account. They are releasing a different game for free every 2 weeks. So far I've had Fable 3, Assassins Creed 2 and Crackdown. Next week it should be Dead Rising 2.

Microsoft need a better marketing department because only 1 of my friends with Xbox live gold had heard about it before I told them.

Shrimpling

So nothing is really changing for xbox and needing a gold account

The real news story should be the PS4 will start charging for things that are currently free on ps3 like online games.

I'm glad I'm not planning to buy either for at least a couple of years, they will both be down to sensible prices by then and I can make a decision based on what games are available rather than a list of similar numbers and a price.

Jimbo Wales: ISP smut blocking systems simply 'ridiculous'

Shrimpling

She isn't going to change her mind now.

The really scary thing is Claire Perry believes she is right and an ISP filter is the best solution. I don't think anybody will be able to convince her that this filter won't work in the way she thinks it will and the people that it is designed to stop will find a work around anyway.

Its too late for her to change her mind even if she wanted to without admitting she was wrong. The real target should be convincing other MP's that she is wrong and they should be voting against this proposal.

Re: Cameron is such a dick

Sadly I believe the majority of Labour voters will continue to vote for Labour and the majority of Conservative voters will vote for the Conservatives at the next election regardless of things like this happening.

The Majority of voters vote for somebody because that is who they have always voted for not because of how good or bad their policy's are. I have no doubt that my constituency will remain as a Conservative seat despite the censorship laws they are introducing.

Re: Censorship from the BBC

The BBC close any comment section that doesn't agree with their point of view or makes them look bad.

I'm surprised they opened the comments for the story in the first place, I guess they thought the comments would all be "great idea".

It doesn't have a touch screen making Windows 8 worthless.

The dodgy version isn't from the Play Store so it wouldn't help in this case.

BBC abandons 3D TV, cites 'disappointing' results

Shrimpling

The Queens Speech

Are they seriously using the Queens speech to decide to stop showing 3D?

I can think of 2 good reasons for the 5% viewing figure:

1) I wouldn't watch it in 2D so there is no chance of me watching it in 3D.

2) At Christmas you tend to be with the family, how many people with 3D TV's have more than 4 pairs of 3D glasses? If 1 person doesn't have the glasses they can't watch it and you are better off watching the 2D version.

Windows 8.1: Here at last, but is it good enough?

Shrimpling

I've just helped my 62yr old Father buy a new laptop

You can either spend twice as much and get an Apple or get a Windows based laptop. We decided against a Chromebook because he needs the laptop to do things his tablet can't do. In the long term Windows 8 will do just fine because its all normal people are able to buy when they go into a shop.

Having tried Windows 8 on various computers it only makes any sense when you have a touch screen. The 11" Asus we purchased was on clearance for £320 and there were no other touch screen laptops anywhere near that price range. Until they start selling touch screen laptops for a reasonable cost people are going to moan about Windows 8 being rubbish. Get them a touch screen and it is suddenly usable.

Re: some of use can actually play FPS with a controller.

I know for certain I cannot play FPS with a keyboard and mouse, using the mouse for aiming just results in me looking at the ceiling or floor. You are correct playability is everything... being hampered by having to use a mouse ruins a game for me

Mice are perfect for strategy games where you have a cursor you move around the screen but I will always prefer a controller for a Shooting game

I'm pretty sure you have this the wrong way round... Games are more expensive when you buy them on xbox live for some unknown reason.

Some examples:

Borderlands 2: £49.99 on Xbox live, £25.76 from Amazon UK.

Modern Warfare 3: £49.99 on Xbox live, £14.99 from Amazon UK

Just Cause 2: £14.99 on Xbox live, £11.48 on Amazon UK
