Notebook makers turn to Android in face of Windows woes

Re: Metro - If only it was so easy

The reason Metro is there and in your face is so they can tax all development on Windows. Why do you think they killed WPF, Silverlight, WindForms and they never came up with a good alternative?

They want developers to move to the WinRT API and lock down all Windows development. Metro is a cash cow of the future, so they will not back down from this path easily. They may sugar-coat it but that is all.

Great

At least they have a plan on what to do with all the Windows 8 licenses they are not going to be selling.

Windows 8 sucks

Windows 8 Metro UI cr@p has negative value in the desktop form factor. Sticking with Windows 7 and waiting for Windows 9.

It is obvious

The body language says it all, he is totally uncomfortable and he didn’t believe a word of what he said. When you watch him on other interviews, he is energetic and he doesn’t have to think carefully before he answers. In this interview he is the exact opposite, I could even say that he probably disagrees with all that is going on but no way could he say anything like that.

Anyway, at least a plus point for the effort, still though Windows 8 is a cr@p OS for anything but tablets and mobile phones.

I just LOVE Server 2012, but count me out on Windows 8 for now

Totally agree…

After my experience with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, I am now allergic to anything “Metro”. That is coming from a developer that bought Windows Phone 7 when they first came out.

The problem with the Metro is not that it is new, or different. The problem is that it is irrelevant as desktop replacement. It is a UI focused on tablets and touch oriented devices. The bigger the monitor the ugliest it looks and more difficult it is to use.

Microsoft is presenting it as “the future” to catch the attention of developers and herd them towards that direction. Unfortunately they will probably manage to alienate a lot of them.

From a business perspective (in my line of business in particular) all these “new” directions have no value whatsoever and what they have achieved is to demonstrate how irrelevant they can become in the future even for the business. The only thing that keeps them alive (in my field of work) is Excel, everything else is replaceable.

At this point I am waiting for them to either sort out their mess with Windows 9 or else I will have to learn everything from scratch, by moving to Linux.

I cannot wait…

...for Windows 8 to come out and fall flat on its ugly face. So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Carbon now, before I have to start searching for downgrade options. At least the box represents what is inside, sht.

Win8 On Destop...

If you install Windows 8 on anything other than a tablet you must be either a newbie or masochist or a Microsoft employee, or simply mentally challenged.

Yes I was one of the people who downloaded the beta and the previews and one of the millions that said “wtf? this is a piece of cr@p, I will never install it on any of my systems”.

I cannot wait for the sh..to hit the fan on October the 25th.
