Ofcom proposes ways to stop BT undercutting broadband rivals

Slacker@work

Re: If BT can lower their prices........

Yep, an acquaintance of mine moved on to a new build estate in May and still don't have a phone line and neither do any of the other homes on the site - lack of capacity in the local exchange is apparently the issue, with no plans to upgrade. Worrying as at least another 200+ new homes being built around here!

I'm using a Pixl XL and also noticed the sudden drop in battery performance (albeit not as bad as that), but no increase in mobile data using.

Ofcom must tackle 'monopolistic' provider BT, says shadow digital minister Chi Onwurah

Slacker@work

Re: Priorities

If the Openreach arm of the business was taken back into public ownership (i.e. a public service) then no, it won't have shareholders.

I don't mind a monopoly as long as it delivers what it promises - the problem is that they are stripping out profit to give to the shareholders; not ploughing monies back into the national infrastructure in a way we would all like.

What do you mean "outside of NSA control" ? Even if the DC was in international waters the NSA would be all over it like a rash.

It would also be ideal for growing an artificial reef on (cold water corals, like we get here in the UK), although I would stick it a bit deeper; 30m would be optimal.

Safe Harbor 2.0: US-Europe talks on privacy go down to the wire

Slacker@work

Can somebody clarify....

Am I right in thinking that there are currently no Apple data centres in the EU, and if so all the personal data of the fanboi crowd (names, credit cards, etc) are happily, and legally as it's in the USA, in the mits of the NSA?

Safe Harbour ruled INVALID: Facebook 'n' pals' data slurp at risk

Slacker@work

generally its not a bad comparison between the two, albeit the upcoming EU Data Protection Directive could shake stuff up a bit - if anything more teeth are given. I particularly like the fine structure for global enterprises - €100 000 000 or 5% of global turnover (that's turnover, not profits).
