Ron got involved when his Project 4 Racing team merged with McLaren, hence the MP4 suffix on all the chassis names

Re: Poor Web Development

Could not agree more. Recently hit the limit on my 500Mb per month when all I ever do is light web browsing. Then discovered that a popular news website that I regularly visit used 20Mb to load the homepage. The insanity.

Microsoft's Project Spartan browser is HERE (unless you build apps or run VMs, that is)

Re: Spartan appears to be IE with a new skin

Spartan is IE 11 but without all the legacy rendering support for IE6-10, so it will score the same. However, this probably does mean that future versions of Spartan will score better as it will be easier to integrate support for new standards.

I'm glad they're not using webkit, it's important to maintain a broad range of engines out there, otherwise we could end up in the bad old day's of everything being written around the most common engine, and standards are ignored.

Virgin Media to splurge BEELLIONS on UK network infrastructure expansion

Re: Wonder

Same here, 1-5 mb speeds in the evening since October last year, and they're now saying it'll get fixed by June 2015. And this is after spamming the entire area with mail last year to get people to sign-up, when they blatantly didn't have the capacity.

Give ALL the EU access to Netflix, says Vince Cable

TV Rights

To be fair, the issue is related to TV rights being sold to local broadcasters. Comedy Central UK has paid for the rights to exclusively broadcast Friends in the UK, this is why it's not available on Netflix in the UK. It's a difficult issue to resolve without tearing down the basis of all TV broadcasting rights sales.

Re: Incorrect

Yes it is cheaper, as anyone making an Android phone has to pay a patent license to Microsoft.

Can the developers only support a Webkit browser?

Windows 8: Never mind Office, it's for GAMING

Where's the XNA?

Then why drop XNA? In one swoop they've removed a bunch of developers who could have brought their games over to Windows 8.

Microsoft: It was never 'Metro,' it was always 'Modern UI'

Laurent Cargill
WTF?

Rock and hard place.

All this criticism of the new UI. But what choice does MS have? Touch is the current big advance in UI, can anyone say for certain that in 5 years there won't be more tablet devices than desktops? MS has to do something to counter the rise of the ipad, but no one seems to be presenting a better idea, just criticism of their approach. Yes, merging a desktop OS with a mobile UI might not be the greatest solution, but how else is MS to incorporate touch into it's OS?
