Why are we disappointed with the best streaming media box on the market?

4d3fect

If you're a SF Giants fan

No amount of Roku goodness will save you from that world of pain.

On a side note, we have older Roku 2XS patched into our little home theatre setup and it works fine.

Only plan to upgrade once one of the components fail. So far, so good.

We have limited OTA content locally, being out in the sticks, reception-wise.

Linux 4.14 'getting very core new functionality' says Linus Torvalds

Started with Dapper Drake, dualbooting with 98SE. Got a lot of help from Ubuntu fora, yet not nearly as much grief as might be expected considering all the stupidity I evinced. Most problems came down to HDD or GPU failures anyway, not OS issues.

Other reasons this is despicable

I've been wondering--since the guy was involved with a beverage company (Coca Cola or some such) --if maybe the reason he got so much VC funding was some speculation (well duh) that they could turn their system into a beverage-dispenser type business model: you see one in every fast food joint, theatre, convenience store, &c here in the states. That's some serious money.

Another reason to hate this is that Oprah gave one away to the cast and crew of A Wrinkle In Time.

Re: Printing

Have the original HP deskjet that came with our original W98SE system, it's been working with nary a hiccup since we went with Dapper (Ubuntu 6 ish IIRC), still does now with 16.04.2. Don't print much anymore anyway, thought that's what modern tech was supposed to supplant?

Lazy yank here.

(that doesn't sound obscene, does it?)

I just use the latest stable Ubuntu and log in with gnome-compiz selected. Easy.

Only reason I keep windows around --not that anybody asked-- (dual-boot on our home box) is for the software for our harmony remote.

Nice bandwidth if you can get it

If I could get it I would. (Being out here in the sticks, ~50Mbps is about as good as I can do.) AdBlock Plus, NoScript & such would take care of the most objectionable ad stuff.

And I just automatically assume ALL ISPs slurp your data.
