Lethal 4-hour-erection-causing spiders spill out of bunch of ASDA bananas

JustNiz

OK time for some fact-based info

@Chris Miller: I seriously doubt it was an aisle, unless you're talking about airsoft or other non-lethal/toy guns. Some of the larger Walmarts in the US do indeed have a sporting section which includes a separate desk with locked display cabinets of firearms behind. Mostly hunting rifles. Its not like you can just wander down an aisle and take an AR-15 off a peg. And while I'm at it, lets end another myth: Whenever you buy a firearm in the US you have to pass an FBI background check before you can take it away (Gun shows and private trades are the only exception). Its just a form and a phone call but nevertheless it's actually not as easy/unregulated as the fact-free sensationalist UK media (including the BBC) would have you believe.

JustNiz

>> All our bananas are washed and sprayed before they are transported to the UK and every single piece of fruit is manually checked for quality and stowaways."

Clearly, a lie.

Alleged buggy software wrongly flunks wannabe lawyers from bar exam. What happened next won't shock you

Passing the bar is overrated.

I can honestly say that Its much better to stop in every one.

UK Science Museum will reconsider its 'sexist' brain quiz

JustNiz

>> Although it is widely agreed that male and female brains do differ chemically with various hormones, whether that translates into cognitive abilities is still debatable.

No it really isn't. Nearly all studies in this area show gender-based cognitive differences. For example, taking the average, nearly all women have better developed communication skills, and nearly all men have better 3D spatial awareness.

So while this exhibit may not be PeeCee enough for the new fact-free belief system that we're all being socially engineered into taking as somehow unquestionably self-evident, it is factually correct and backed up with experimental results The real problem is that inconvenient truths clearly have no place in the modern social agenda.

Brexit makes life harder for an Internet of Things startup

JustNiz

Re: I wouldn't worry

The world is an inherently uncertain place. To believe anything else is ridiculous naivety.

The EU is a failed experiment. By the time it inevitably implodes, exactly because of Brexit, the UK will already be in a more stable, independent position than the middle of the storm, and will even be able to take advantage of the many opportunities that the EU imploding will leave independent outsiders with.

Think of it this way:The EU is the Titanic. Its destiny is inevitable. Would you rather be on the big ship still listening to and beleiving in the ridiculous "unsinkable" claims even though the sea is slowly but clearly filling the ship up, or would you rather have already safely transferred to an admittedly smaller ship while the iceberg was still looming on the horizon?

US Marine Corps to fly F-35s from HMS Queen Lizzie as UK won't have enough jets

JustNiz

Re: US Marine Corps will be flying F-35Bs

You need to stop listening the the blatantly biassed BBC and other media and do your own research. Its really not President "Lets focus on the US at home and not be world police anymore" Trump the rest of the world has to worry about.

Inform yourself properly about Clinton. Start with looking at how she singlehandedly caused and fucked up the Iraq war and still wants to bomb every country in the middle east until they either salute the US flag or become the Saudis bitches, just because the Saudis already own her from "donating" literally hundreds of millions of $$$ to the Clinton foundation in so-called "campaign contributions".

BBC vans are coming for you

JustNiz

Re: I'd still like to know...

> How exactly they can pinpoint which resident has or has not a T.V. licence got, when it comes to communal residences such as a block of flats?

They used to have vans with big coils on the roof that were supposedly able to pick up the RF from the high-voltage used by the flyback transformer in old school CRT-type TVs, but since CRTs have long gone they can't do that any more. I read that they can sniff wifi packets to see if anyone is streaming BBC shows over wifi. my bet is that most of it is really just fearmongering to try and scare people into getting a licence.

Rounded corners on Android phones cost Samsung $548m: It will pay up to Apple after all

Rounded corners on things is hardly a new concept. I thought patents had to be innovative? And what about prior art?

Seagate flashes 60TB (yes, sixty) SSD monster

JustNiz

Given the price for the 15TB version is still over $10k. the price of this drive has got to be around $40k. Insane.

60tb with spinning drive technology would cost less than $3k. OK it wont have the crazy performance but will cope with a whole lot more write cycles. Spinning drives are clearly a long way from dead yet.

Did Donald Trump really just ask Russia to hack the US govt? Yes, he did

JustNiz

Re: "Did Donald Trump really just ask Russia to hack the US govt?"

Thats because the media are a bunch of Hillary fangirls.

Just look at BBC, especially World News. The BBC was once the bastion of quality reporting. Now has lost all credability. Both Katty Kay and Lucy Hockings clearly can't wait to trash Trump at every opportunity and breathlessly wax lyrical about Hilary all the time, and also regularly make a whole news segment about some tiny non-newsworthy thing, clearly just because its about someone who did something and has a vagina. Whatever happened to unbiassed, professional reporting?

JustNiz

I'm amazed how the author and most of the posters here all think you're oh so clever in continually dumping on Trump, but clearly none of you have actually bothered to do your own homework so are badly uninformed about just how corrupt/evil/self-serving/psychopathic Hilary really is.

Look, Trump is clearly not a great choice, but literally any choice is better than Hillary. All I'm saying is before you just repeatedly mock Trump (mostly at the liberal media's encouragment), at least bother to educate yourself by doing your own research on Hillary first.

She wants it. She needs it. Shall I give it to her or keep doing it by myself?

JustNiz

For a more modern analogy simply replace "Apple" With "Linux".

Guess who gets hit hard by IR35 tax clampdown? Yep, IT contractors

Blighty will have a whopping 24 F-35B jets by 2023 – MoD minister

JustNiz

Why?

I don't get what the UK think they are achieving by spending billions on this and other ridiculous things such as nuclear submarines, when that money could go to directly and significantly help the population instead.

I mean even with 24 F35's, the entirety of the UK's military forces would be about as much of a hindrance as a speed-bump to the average invading superpower, and nobody else is going to bother to invade (at least using conventional warfare or any method that an F35 would be a useful deterrent for).

Prominent Brit law firm instructed to block Brexit Article 50 trigger

Alleged Brit hacker Lauri Love bailed amid US extradition battle lull

JustNiz

Its just basic common sense that In order for the UK to even begin to consider deporting anyone, the US should be required to come up with some proof/actual evidence first, not just unsubstantiated allegations. Anything else is a blatant abuse of basic human rights. That said, if this idiot did actually hack into the US gov or anyone elses computer without permission then he should be punished.

Microsoft SQL Server for Linux is a brilliant and logical idea

JustNiz

For once I agree with Microsoft.

I think this is great news, but I'll bet that Microsoft will come to regret this decision.

Contrary to what Microsoft obviously believe, I don't believe that any new project would sensibly choose SQL Server over say Postgresql, but the existence of a Linux-based Sql Server would definitely facilitate the porting of existing Windows-based deployments over to Linux and bring the many advantages of that to the user, such as more control, better security and savings on Windows Server Licence fees.

BBC's Britflix likely dead before the ink has even dried on the news

JustNiz

I'm an ex-pat Englishman now living in the US.

I grep up with the BBC and was always proud of the role that it played globally: they were known the world over as being synonymous for high quality programming and very professional, very unbiased news reporting.

I have lately been very disappointed to witness the obvious ongoing massive decline of standards that I can't even take the BBC seriously as an institution any more.

I started to realise the BBC are now run by a bunch of radically Leftie PeeCee hippies when it was clear that they were out to find any way to kill off by far their most profitable and globally successful show ever (Top Gear) just for daring to appeal to men that still had testicles. And now far worse, decades of unbiassed, professional standards of reporting have clearly gone out the window, BBC News America obviously now has a pro-Labour bias, and has also pretty much become just a platform for Katty Kay's personal feminazi agenda and an anti-Trump campaign.

UK needs comp sci grads, so why isn't it hiring them?

JustNiz

The actual reason that employers aren't hiring UK CS grads has nothing to do with their ability, and everything to do with the fact that you can hire 5 incompetent programmers with fake degrees in India for the same money.

So xenon huh, the same gas they use in strobe light bulbs? So a really bright blue-white glow coming out the tails of spaceships exactly like Star Wars, Star Trek and the vast majority of all video games happened to portray for the last several decades what "space thrusters" would look like..... I'm also pretty sure there must be an excellent physics/chemistry-based reason for using Xenon as opposed to any other propellant.

I'm really starting to notice how very often nature/logic always finds a way to ensure that scientific/technical breakthroughs "just happen" to turn out looking exactly the way Hollywood and video game developers already portrayed them, even though they almost certainly could have had no actual scientific basis for their portrayal, just cool-factor.

So you’d sod off to China to escape the EU, Google? Really?

Samsung Galaxy S7: Big brand Android flagship champ

JustNiz

Fixed battery = ripoff

I have absolutely no intention to spend anything more than about $50 on a device that you can't replace the battery on.

The decision to not make the battery replaceable was just a blatant rip-off mechanism pioneered by Apple and now copied by Samsung, since Apple have already proved how short-term and stupid consumers can be.

These companies are building in unnecessary obsolescence, just to ensure that if you're stupid enough to buy this phone, you will also have to either send it back for expensive repair or buy another phone in another two years or so when the battery no longer holds as much of a charge, even though there's absolutely nothing wrong with the phone itself.
