EU
How long will it take until the wankers in EU stop with that nonsensical favouritism of diesel? There's less tax on it in most places, for god's sake...

"there is no practical difference in exhaust between a modern Euro 5 or higher diesel and petrol in particulates."
Firstly, particulates are only one aspect. Secondly, there is "no practical difference" only according to the same tests that were fooled by VAG's software, right? Right.
"They can't tell if tighter limits will have a social benefit. It doesn't seem to be case in the German cities that've banned "filthy cars"."
You really don't know what you're talking about and you should stop embarrassing yourself. Ask people who live in Berlin what they think about the subject.
Our goal is to provide experiences that work really well on all Windows devices.
Well, screw you and your stupid streamlining ideas. Why should something like Nokia 1020 have the same experience as Lumia 435? As Surface Pro?
FFS, this trend of lowest common denominators and protecting the idiots (we don't want to confuse our customers with options that might change something or God forbid with some settings that might limit the functions of the device) is so infuriating!
As I said elsewhere:
Yes, it'll be great when all Flash advertisements with loud music become HTML5 ones and you'll need a 3rd party tool to block them. Absolutely the best thing along with killing off one of the most powerful and yet relatively easy to develop with tools on the web.
But hey, at least I was reminded of this site http://flashvhtml.com/
But what is she going to do about it?
By the way, thanks for providing me with a reason for a nice conversation.
OS used to be primarily an interface between you and the hardware. That improvement is in DX12, which probably isn't even an actual OS feature despite what MS claims.
So the rest is the UI, "apps", customization, data slurping.
In other words, OS is becoming (or has become) an interface between your data and the cloud.
They don't have to be faster and cheaper
I've read many discussions and conclusions of reviewers saying something along the lines of "Why would I want AMD if Nvidia is just as good for the same price?"
AMD drivers are outrageously buggy
Yeah, people keep saying that while any bugs in nVidia's drivers are just some weird bug not worth mentioning or remembering. Confirmation bias, some say. I have yet to see some broad analysis of driver quality of both.
Note the similarity with the above.
After the Fury X reveal I don't think AMD will survive if Zen turns out to be not revolutionary with visible results on day 1. Most of the reviews and the majority of people I talked to were disappointed with it. How can a company survive when it needs to have products that are both stronger and cheaper so that consumers even consider it?
I feel pretty much the same, data harvesting should be opt-in, not hidden opt-out.
Additionally, I believe this is against some (?) EU regulations on data protection and I still believe someone whose self-expressive skills aren't sub-turnip should write a petition since I haven't seen any sign of any EU organs noticing what's going on, as usual.
However, I find the number of people ignoring, accepting, or even defending these practices rather disturbing. Has the 'civilized' society completely given up its demands for privacy and not being datamined for no benefit to it? Most of the apologists would respond to this something along the lines of "If you want privacy, don't upgrade" or even "Don't use the internet"... Oh well.
Not exactly on topic, but do you guys and gals think it would be worth it to send a petition to the EU regarding Microsoft's blatant scummery?
I asked a "European Parliament Data Protection Service Data Protection Officer" about it, and the response was "Our functions do not allow to provide you with a complete and satisfactory answer." and I was suggested to check out the petitions...
Yes, unreadable fine print hidden at the end of the (unlawful) agreement which is stowed in a locked filing cabinet in a disused toilet with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the leopard" is totally an agreement. How magical.
This things should come with explicit and informed agreement.
But hey, at least it isn't like WP8 where they upload all your primary contacts and calendar entries without telling you and without an option to opt out.
So what's worse, (mega)corporations slurping every bit of data they can get their hands on to use it for profit and providing it to unknown third parties (which includes state bodies), or (multi)national associations doing unknown level of surveillance in the name of "security" with the potential for political abuse?
I'm asking because I see a very notable imbalance in interest between the two.
Obligatory BigB.
There's a huge focus on the UI and none of the capabilities of the OS itself. For example, WP8 has very limited settings and just things you can do with it in general. Is this still a thing? And a lot of people keep babbling about how W(P)10(M) is identical to proper Windows, and yet all previews say something along the lines of "it's based on the same code" or whatever. What's the difference then?
Additionally, 3rd page: "Reboots didn’t helped".
That's a nice selection. And I thought I had won everything when I had a "Targus Commuter" transported from Canada to Europe.
And yet cars are becoming more and more just smartphones that also provide transportation as seen on the latest Mitsubishi's infotainment system for Cadillacs.
You have most of Mantle in Vulkan, isn't that open enough? "In the works" is a silly ambiguous term that might as well mean "it's still being only designed", don't know about "Freesync" or what they said about it (wasn't that about additional hardware?), Bulldozer was a bet on software going the effective parallel route instead of not-so-efficient (but easy for the developers) mostly single thread design, which clearly didn't work out, what's with the APUs (no apostrophe there)? The A10-7850 holds up pretty well despite one if its main features not being used yet again (HSA).
Yes, I do get the point. You confuse vague marketing-made promises with expectations.
AMD was a mess, but much less than people make it out to be. That led to CEO change and now that the initial confusion is almost over, they might come back somehow. Or not, we'll see. Regardless, as far as GPU hardware goes, I don't recall any underdelivering.
Well, one more company to be absorbed by one of these giants. My expectations from consumer technology are very low, so this doesn't surprise me... I'm more concerned with what will happen to all the data that HERE users have provided to the company and what will happen to the pre-facebook installations.
Edit: Assuming the deal is there and goes through.
