Abu Dhabi drops sack of cash into UK broadband challenger Hyperoptic

All hype, little else

I'm always surprised at all the press Hyperoptic get. They have shoveled millions down a big hole and never made anything back. I wonder what more nimble operators might have made of that cash pile. Journalists, meanwhile, slavishly report their 'disruptor' credentials and breathlessly mention them in the same breath as CityFibre and Gigaclear (who genuinely are making a difference) while all they do is re-sell Openreach fibre.

Shame they cut a corner on this premium product

VERY disappointed that there are two models - a 'European' one and an 'American' one - with different spectrum cover in each model. A premium product like this should have the ability to be used in the widest possible number of places and it doesn't. Was excited when the new model was announced and so let down when the the specs were finally released.

Defence of the Dark Fibre Arts: Ofcom delays plans to force BT to open its network

Dark fibre already available

Just buy an EAD circuit from Openreach and unplug the fibre from the ADVA at each end.

Delays for civil works and wayleave agreements

While civil works and wayleave agreements do hold up a significant proportion of fibre provisions, this explains rather than excuses the delays.

Openreach's management of civil works is inadequate. In practice, they issue the jobs and wash their hands of the process, leaving their contractors to run rings around them.

Their wayleaves department generally tends to perform in line with the amount of resources it is allocated.

To say a Hyperoptic circuit is not an Openreach circuit is rubbsh

Hyperoptic use Openreach's last mile fibre for a lot of their customers.
