400 developers ? All new to the job ?
What could possibly go wrong.
To quote a phrase I read elsewhere:
"It's not the Cloud, it's someone else's computer."
They're not doing very well lately are they.
I'm with you.
Although I did it a few years ago.
Custom ROM on my phone (Google free, side load the apps).
Ixquick or DuckDuckGo for the browser of your choice.
Gmail used as a junk account, signing up for websites etc.
and adblock everywhere.
I simply asked a question (which you did not answer).
As the original article implies general web browsing I think my statement still stands.
What's wrong with that?
Are you confusing it with Java?
"mine's the one with the penny whistle in the pocket."
I'll see your penny whistle and raise you a sonic screwdriver.
But yet so far.
It will come, oh yes, it will come.
(paraphrasing Mr Cooke)
You have no friends or you haven't told anyone your email address.
Have a nice day.
Would you like to try that again?
I've no idea what you're trying to say.
Has anyone else noticed that all this s**t about the internet recently is derived from American companies?
They seem to think that the "internet" belongs to them.
I'll give it 10 years and they will be sidelined.
Feel free to link back to this post.
Agree with your comments.
The only way that I can see Broughton being extended is to the north as it's flat farm land there and the terrain to the south is rising (it's a real buzz sitting in Wood Lane when a Beluga comes in from the south!).
You could get the wings of the A380 in it for a start.
However the main restriction to a plane this size is the runways of the Airbus factories.
Hamburg and Toulouse handle the A380 already and most are in open countryside so could be extended.
The fly in the ointment is Broughton where the runway is bounded by a main road at one end and a railway at the other. It's also quite narrow.
These planes, although big, don't carry much weight so only need 2 engines.
Live fast, die young (as you feel)
"Silicon Valley's conviction that everybody is a 23-year-old software developer who can't cook, clean house, or shop without help,"
It's the modern world.
I'm off to the pub to talk to real people.
Previous to this post (@01:45Z) a lot of people have been complaining about ads, tracking, etc.
One would assume that because they are posting on El Reg that they would know about these things.
Apparently not so.
Don't want to see ads - use an adblocker.
Don't want to be tracked - delete cookies after your session.
Don't want to be tracked - don't use Google.
Use an anonymizer search instead such as DuckDuckGo or Startpage.
If you have to use Facebook then good luck to you. You are there to be milked.
It's the internet. You have as much control as the websites.
Some years ago, in a previous employment, I had contact with the (then) Home Office Radio Regulatory Department in Whitehall.
On one occasion I went to their facility in Honeypot Lane, Stanmore.
I asked of my contact "Aren't they TV detector vans?" Pointing to the grey Commer/Bedford vehicles.
He sniggered and said go and look inside.
There was a seat in the back just under the "DF loop" aerial on the roof so that you could reach the handle to turn it.
There was nothing else in there.
He confirmed there never had been in any of them (and this was part of his job).
This packet sniffing is complete rubbish. Just hide your SSID if you're paranoid/careful.
RIP Ian (my contact)
You have tried to access a page that no longer exists from a website that has deprecated links.
So they send you to an archive.
Allez les bleu for giving this a go.
Thanks for clarifying that.
Where's the WTF icon.
Ah, I found it.
You left out "going forward"
My money is on Apple for the source of this. But they can't be seen to be giving away access to their phones so "a third party did it"
It won't go into the wild as it was passed directly.
Call me a cynic but........
Apple were approached by the FBI (through the courts mind you) to unlock the phone in question.
Apple refused citing legal this and that, setting a precedent, etc. Other companies could be forced into the same situation and so on.
In the meantime a "third party" has provided an apparent means to do what the FBI wanted.
Everybody gets a result.
FBI get what they wanted.
Apple comes out squeaky clean because they stood up to the man.
Call me a cynic but.......
You can't blame Apple. It's just the way the system works.
They can't do anything right lately. Title says it all.
To take control of your Win 7 updates I'd recommend the following:
Turn off automatic updates.
Install WSUS Offline updates and (if you feel paranoid) GWX Control Panel.
Huzzah! No more Win 10 nags.
Title says it all.
(Although why critical equipment is accessible from the internet God only knows)
I'm running Cyanogen on a Samsung S2. Perfectly fine.
Everything Google has been removed (thanks Link2SD) and any apps are downloaded from the Playstore onto my computer (there is a way if you search) and side loaded to the phone.
Might need a new battery soon but they're peanuts.
Old but not obsolete. (No Arni icon unfortunately)
The coffee shop/restaurant to which you refer is called Milliways.
Try to keep up.
@AC I agree with your comment wholeheartedly but to which post do you refer?
Unless the miscreant has edited their post in the mean time.
Do you know what paragraphs are?
Sorry El Reg.
I prefer news instead of adverts.......
It's Xmas and I'm feeling unusually generous.
@J J Carter
1 day ago you posted this:
That explains why Sheppie, my border collie, started barking and pawing at the computer as soon as I installed Windows 10, he just knew something was terribly wrong."
Make your mind up.
Does anyone proof read these articles?
"Local broadband carriers let off regualtion"
I don't think so.
(not just in this instance but generally).
You are either amanfromMars or you've been to the pub.
Either way I claim my £5.
Eventual death by a thousand cuts.
Doesn't any one test this stuff.
Upvoted you for the last sentence.
I thought Windows was always about enterprise/business/people that had no where else to go....
Why are they putting so much emphasis on Xbox ?
I get it. That's what they play all day at Redmond not what the rest of the world does.
This will not end well.
Icons of our time.
And I mean that with a MASSIVE dose of irony (or truth, depends on your point of view)
Title says it all
"But investors seemed pleased with the results, and Twitter's share price climbed by more than 5 per cent on the news and continued upward in after-hours trading."
This has nothing to do with the viability of Twitter but has everything to do with the money grabbing "markets" that we are all told to embrace.
Pale blue paint is expensive
Yes but you can't do aerobatics in a B52 like you can in a Vulcan.
Just ask Bud Holland. (oh, you can't)
Kudos for the headline.
All well and good but it's just a tease until we try it for ourselves.
Mail order link please.
Although he did resent being constantly referred to as The Prince Of Darkness/Dracula he was a very good actor. I for one shall miss him.
Check out The Wicker Man 1973
RIP Mr Lee.
Anyone else think that Nix looks like a potato ?
My first impression anyway.
