Cloud growth? Take a number, Microsoft. Two engines have stalled

largefile

Meanwhile...normal people love Windows 10.

You folks here are so jaded by your hatred for all things Microsoft. Month after month, year after year. My enjoyment of the OS continues to rise as does the balance of my investment account.

I'll keep watching as Microsoft continues to remake itself and rise, while relishing in your disgust and indignation.

Thanks for the hatertainment!

Someone please rid me of this turbulent Windows 10 Store

largefile

Well..have to say I've performed 5 or 6 Win 10 upgrades or full clean installs and I've never seen this behavior, nor have I seen anyone else reporting it elsewhere. Maybe you need to turn on the internet before you click?

largefile

You just click on the Windows Store icon in the task bar. Not too difficult. Or click on Cortana and say the magic words. "Windows Store"

largefile

Re: What went wrong?

Investors sure seem to be doing well with MSFT. The 100 million Win 10 users don't have lots of complaints. It appears as though The Register has something going on, they can attract every MS Hater in the universe. Microsoft pays The Reg to do this to keep you all here playing with yourselves.

Spare a reserved cloud instance, gov? Microsoft's $1bn, 70k charity sales pitch

largefile

You folks are all so one minded in your zeal to hate.

Microsoft as a corporation has been at the top or near the top of every corporation in the United States for the last 20 years in philanthropic giving and not all of it has been "get you hooked on MS freebies." Then if you take the matching donations to all of their employees and add in the philanthropic activities of former Microsoft folks, especially those from the early decades of the company it's a pretty significant figure.

And just for the heck of it....throw in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

You haters can continue hating if it makes you feel good. Maybe you should, instead, do something positive for a change.

Research: Microsoft the fastest growing maker of tablet OSs ... by 2019

largefile

If you want to look at some funny predictions, take a look back at how many of you said Microsoft would be dead by now. Funny, my Microsoft shares have performed pretty good the last couple of years and I'm laughing my way to the bank! Got another dividend payment coming up in another couple of weeks. :)

Windows 10 growth stalls during October

Meanwhile....MS reports a great quarter and the stock his record highs. If this is stalled, my portfolio hasn't noticed.

So you're still looking?

Mad_Max,

Hopefully you'll land on your feet and find another job. Microsoft still employs about 120,000 people and it's not as though the people who received layoff notices didn't get a fair severance package.

Re: What always seems to get missed...

Amazon and Google are far more likely to profit from your privacy than is Microsoft. Stop living in the past and regurgitating the same old evil Microsoft stuff you have most likely been regurgitating for a decade or more.

Is Windows 10 slurping too much data? No, says Microsoft. Nuh-uh. Nope

largefile

And you thought Microsoft was evil!

largefile

The information is a month old so I'm sure the Windows 10 share has increased but it really shows how most of you are inconsequential technophiles pissing up a tree. You folks just have your personal piss fest anytime anything Microsoft is mentioned. This rag is downright comical in how out of touch with reality it is.

Hello? HELLO? Major Skype outage hits folk WORLDWIDE

largefile

Re: Well deserved, since some idiot decided to scoop my adress book from Skype

So basically there is nothing that Microsoft can do that would make you happy. If they charged for everything they would be greedy pigs and if they give stuff away they are greedy pigs. Guess you must be waiting for a non-profit company to come to your rescue.

Re: If you open Internet Explorer

Every time I update ANY Adobe product and many others the check box for Chrome is already checked for me. At least Microsoft asks and the check box is unchecked BY DEFAULT. No surprises at all.

Microsoft releases free Office apps for half of all Android phones

largefile

How's the hate fest going gentlemen? Not a one of you I presume has tried the Office for Android applications. You all just like thrashing Microsoft for the sport of it. No problem....have at it....Microsoft has turned the corner on just about everything you seem to relentlessly dwell upon and no matter what you want to believe, the company has survived and is prospering once again. New leadership, new direction, daily evidence that they are on track.

It must gall all of you to realize they aren't going to die the death you have prayed would befall them for so long.

This is Sparta? No - it's Microsoft Edge, Son of Internet Explorer

largefile

It's almost as though not a one of you has actually seen Spartan/Edge in person nor Windows 10 nor any other technology mentioned today. Microsoft may well stumble but you know what....I'm betting they don't. Things have really changed in Redmond. You can hate them forever but the momentum is building, the partners are lining up, the collaborations are happening and all the venom in your veins will not slow it down. You folks are living a decade ago.

Is this for adults?

Curious if anyone over the age of 50 has given this a shot. My near vision has been so compromised by presbyopia as has the vision of most folks hitting middle age that I just can't imaging using this for much more than telling time assuming I used a large clock face or numbers. I'm not an iPhone person but I can't believe how small all of the earlier generation iphones are. Just getting so tired of small text everywhere.

Microsoft to open first flagship Store beyond North America

Re: Keep on hating......

You must think I'm referring to the comments that get posted. I'm referring to the "journalists" who write opinion infused anti Microsoft stories and try to pass them off as news.

largefile

Keep on hating......

The amount of Microsoft hatred on this rag never ceases to amaze. Keep on hating.... Microsoft will keep on moving forward. In case you haven't figured it out yet, things have changed in Redmond. New people, new energy, new direction.

Microsoft enlists web security pariah Adobe to help build Internet Explorer-killer Spartan

largefile

I'll be happy if somehow in the future I'm protected from drive by installs of Chrome every time I update an Adobe product. Maybe with the new relationship Microsoft can get Adobe to "uncheck" the install chrome box.

HELP! Windows Phone update 8.1 broke my Lumia

largefile

Re: At least I know it's not just me!

So I guess if the developer preview was rock solid and the release is not...it could very well be an issue with something your carrier has decided to include. As a stateside Verizon customer I can attest to my carrier holding up the 8.1 and now Denim party for nearly a year while the developer previews ran just fine on their phones. My Icon just YESTERDAY received it's official 8.1/Denim upgrade and while it appears to be fine thus far, if something starts hanging, I'm gonna point the finger at Verizon.

Wall St wolves tear chunk off Microsoft: There goes $30bn!

Re: Inconsistent stock market reactions

I own a bunch of Microsoft stock which has done very well for me. What did I do this morning during the sell off? I bought more at an 9% discount. Microsoft isn't going away, Satya Nadella is still brilliant and their massive R&D over the years will pay off because they have both a trove of IP to draw from but also a lot of brilliant workers who are inspired by the company's new direction.

Planning to upgrade your Lumia to Windows 10? NOT SO FAST

largefile

Why are you folks even here posting? This is just a hate all things Microsoft rag. I work for Microsoft vendors all the time on campus and have had my fair share of exposure to the folks in the Windows Phone group. If you think that the possibility that certain Lumia or Windows 8+ phones won't be able to update to 10 because Microsoft wants to sell you a new Lumia you are nuts. They want as many happy people as they can possibly make happy. They want as many people using 10 on all of their devices as they can muster.

Get a life folks.

Microsoft's axeman Nadella fills baskets with 2,100 fresh heads

largefile

You guys are too much with your tired anti Microsoft venom. Microsoft is probably going to be around long after most of you are pushing walkers in the rest home.

In case you guys don't read anything but your own rantings....take a gander at just about any financial pages and read a little about how well Satya Nadella's new direction is being received.

MS got 32,000 new employees in the Nokia acquisition. Did anyone really expect them all to remain? Only 4700 of those employees were in Finland. The rest were involved in manufacturing.

MS will continue to improve on all facets and find a new mojo. Windows 9 will convince Win 7 and Win 8 people to upgrade, XP will finally die and then Windows 10 will be huge. You read it here first folks.

'Windows 9' LEAK: Microsoft's playing catchup with Linux

largefile

Re: Meeeh

It's pretty easy to turn off many of the mouse/swipe movements in the UI if you dig a little. Windows 9 is said to be more aware of the computer's capabilities as well. A computer with no touch and only a mouse should be recognized and behave differently than with those features.

Bill Gates: Sell off Bing? Nah. Xbox? Maybe...

largefile

Bing is a fine search engine. You might prefer Google but you are the same people saying Bing was shit 5 years ago. If the Bing of today were around 5 years ago you would have thought it amazing. There's nothing wrong with Bing. It delivers millions of relevant search results every day in a pleasing and easy to use and digest format. Doesn't matter what search engine I use, I generally find what i'm looking for in the first few results. I'm like most people in the world.....we all aren't searching for whatever esoteric stuff you guys seem to be looking for.

And really now.....don't you think two search engines competing with each other and pushing each other is better than one? Google is better because of Bing and Bing certainly has been motivated by Google.

It's a done deal! Microsoft-Nokia merger to close on Friday

largefile

Re: Nokia's Elop had $25 M personal stake in Microsoft deal ..

Are you really delusional enough to believe that MeeGo would have garnered any appreciable market share going up against Android, iOS, Windows Phone and whatever else Samsung and some Chinese companies have up their sleeve? If Elop has not gone down the Windows Phone path the company would have just sunk faster.

Back off, Siri! Microsoft debuts Halo beauty Cortana

You MS haters are amusing!

Let me tell you gentleman something. Microsoft is firing on all cylinders. There aren't any empty parking spaces in the parking lots in Redmond. There's lots of good news, lots of energy, lots of work going on. The stock price has been surging. They got their mojo back.

You can hate on them all you want while making believe they are the same Microsoft you came to hate but I think you are going to be disappointed and proven wrong.

Microsoft chairman John Thompson: Redmond looks 'like IBM in 1990'

largefile

You folks are living in the past.

Your tired comments about Microsoft have little to do with the present or the future. Microsoft is primed for success and they are begging to hit on all cylinders. Keep living in the past...meanwhile my shares have increased by over 40% recently and I'm getting a healthy dividend. Buy low, sell high...now is your time to get on board.

Amazon patents caches for physical goods

largefile

Nothing here but a group of bitching haters.

Honestly, I'm trying to remember ANY comment thread in this rag where the readership has for the most part praised anything. Amazing amount of hatred here, day in, day out.

Is there nothing positive at all about Amazon? I for one do not miss brick and mortar shopping much at all. Amazon for the most part in my neck of the woods offers a better selection of most of the things I want than does any brick and mortar store or online store for that matter. I've ceased doing web searches when shopping and start by searching Amazon where I can one click myself into Nirvana. Living in Seattle, I have now many times ordered something in the early AM only to be surprised to have it delivered in only one day. I've taken advantage of a few "same day" deliveries for an additional $3.99. If this anticipatory shipping does as I suspect, there will be far more items available to me for same day shipping. Amazon kicks arse!

Bill Gates is once again the richest man on Earth

largefile

Re: can't give his money away

Why don't you check with Heifer and see how big and important that turned out for them. One small act that made millions of people find out what Heifer is and what they do.

You folks are too much in your selfish indignation. You are small people who wouldn't know a good thing if it hit you upside the head. Do a little research into what the Gates Foundation has done and continues to do. Do a little research into the giving pledge. Stop your childish old tech jealously and self righteous "open source the world should be free" bull pucky and figured things out. Microsoft made money in the world of big business by playing big business better than anyone else was playing it. Gates is wise enough to parlay that victory into a philanthropic behemoth like no other.

Leaked MS ad video parodies Chrome as surveillance tech

Google Wins!

Google has beaten Microsoft soundly in this battle. It took them far fewer years to earn the title Evil Empire. "Do no harm!"

largefile

Actually you are wrong. I work in the film/video business in the Seattle market and have worked countless shoots over the years for internal Microsoft videos. Many of these have pretty high production values and they are definitely for internal use only. In fact I know of at least one recent instance where a vendor who had edited such a video was banned because he posted it on his Vimeo page.

Heck even the public presentations don't get released in high quality. Case in point was Bill Gates "Last Day" video that was presented at his final CES Keynote. Do a youtube search for Bill Gates Last Day and all you can find are shaky cam handheld video from cell phones at the event. Microsoft is notoriously tight fisted with that sort of material.

Wireless charging on the Galaxy S4: Samsung goes VHS not Betamax

Love my Qi enabled Nokia 822

Just have to say after a month of owning a Nokia 822 with the Qi backplate it still strikes me how absolutely easy it is to stay charged. Where without it I might only plug in at night or when I know I won't be picking my phone up for a bit, with the Qi charger I always set it down on the charger when I'm near it and I'm always ready to go for longer periods of heavy phone consumption. There's a Nokia branded Qi automobile charger/mount in the works and that will be the holy grail for me with both chargers.

The beauty of chat over telephone calls is the ability to walk away from the chat for a moment and not create a lull. I can craft a response, go grab a cup of coffee and come back and see the reply. It's "near" real time whereas a voice call is real time. They both have a place but chat is more productive for me, especially when the information being exchanged is more casual.

Love My WP7.

I've had an HTC Trophy WP7 for about 15 months now and it's received three updates. I runs flawlessly and has not locked up on me ONCE in 15 months. It just keeps working like a clock. Apps galore....certainly more than I'll every be able to fully evaluate. When anyone asks me about the phone I give a demo of the capabilities of the people hub. Once they see the incredible power and ease of the people hub for everything from social connections to keeping track of business communications, nor further pitch is needed. It's simply the most simple to use and naturally powerful OS in the phone world today. I'll be upgrading to a new WP8 phone shorty after release.
