Google's 'power to switch off the lights in Europe' has 'chilling effect' - rivals

Re: Advertisers and shills, who gives a fuck?

And Microsofts operating system was theirs, surely they could add whatever they wanted? But no. had to treat other media companies (ie.real player and others) and web browsers (ie.mozilla). Whats good for microsoft should be good for google.

Governments did it with Bell, BT and Telstra - all private companies, the latter two which were sold off by Governments at that.

Netbooks were a GOOD thing and we threw them under a bus

MSI WIND ftw

Went looking for a cheap viable option for the girlfriend a couple of years back and got her an MSI WInd - not least because it came in hot pink apparently. Throw in the USB 3G Dongle and she was set. Survived everything until she ran it over with her car. Shes now using my i5 Toshiba laptop.

Germany sets date for Google vs newspapers smackdown

Wookie
Thumb Up

Google has had a free ride for far too long. Net neutraility rules created a monster that everybody has thought was this great cuddly ideal - freedom wrapped in advertising. Let big internet companies like Google, Amazon etc have to pay rent on their bandwidth usage. Tax them into the stone age. Its an unpopular train of thought but hey its 6am and Im an unpopular guy,

Thumbs up for the Germans.

The Sinofsky Letters: Defenestrated Windows overlord corresponds

Wookie

All good here

Im a standard user with a a fairly decent collection of movies, tv shows and music. Im not an IT professional. Ive used every generation of windows since migrating from dos/desqview - including ME and Vista. Currently using win7, IE9 and have everything set to default. I hate windows explorer, but have never had an issue with My Computer. And it all works perfectly fine.

Should Microsoft merge Office into Windows - or snap it off?

Wookie
FAIL

Not likely

If Microsoft couldnt embed Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer without raising eyebrows from regulators and screams from competitors, how the hell will it be allowed to integrate its own office suite into the OS. Thats never going to be allowed on the desktop.

EC: Microsoft didn't honour browser-choice commitment

Wookie

what browser market?

This has always confused me a little.

All browsers are given away for free for crying out loud. If the Browser was so integral to the process then why are google basically printing money with a similar - and far more insidious monopoly in something that matters - ie. web search and consumer information.

I've never understood the rationale behind the banning of the inclusion of IE and Media Player varieties in Windows, when alternatives were always freely available elsewhere. Im honestly surprised that microsoft were allowed to include their antispyware stuff at all. For me these were just natural developments and extensions of the OS.

Unhappy

angry face

is it just me or does the spider appear to have an angry face. I'd reckon that I'd be pretty annoyed too though.

The Register lands in Australia

Wookie

It doesnt matter as long as it abides by the rules.

Theres a somewhat obvious monty python reference to be made here, but instead knowing local tendences to end things in "azza" - ie. Dazza, Shazza etc....how about The Razza :p

Black Helicopters

Whalers on the moon?

A distinct lack of whalers on the moon, carrying a harpoon, singing a merry tune etc.
