Kryder's law craps out: Race to uber-cheap storage is voer

Faster than Moore's Law?

That 50 million increase took place over 41 years, a rate of improvement fantastically faster than Moore's Law, which, the article said involves, "doubling the power and memory of computer semiconductors every 18 months".

41 years is just over 27 periods of 18 months. 2^27 is over 134 million, so a nearly three times faster rate of improvement than Kryder's Law (as you'd expect with a doubling every 18 months vs every 2 years).

Re: "Copyright exception allowing them to make a private copy of a music CD"

No, we've never had that in the UK. There's just been an unwritten agreement (I think the police may even have gone as far as to actually state it) that, while technically illegal, nobody would be arrested/prosecuted for it.

Re: Is it just me?

The image there is after they've removed the memory chip from on top of the processor, so presumably more extreme heating (i.e. desoldering) was required for that.

ITC: Seagate and LSI can infringe Realtek patents because Realtek isn't in the US

rob1n

They can't enforce their patents via the ITC unless they use that IP in the USA. There's nothing here that says they can't take the companies to court and enforce their patents that way though.

Re: What of Patent Trolls

And they don't go to the ITC, so this ruling is irrelevant to them.

EXTREMELY RARE never-seen-alive WHALES found (briefly) alive

Re: Amazing

As it apparently takes a DNA test to tell it apart from its more common cousin, how can they be sure they've not been seen alive before? How many "Gray's beaked whales" do they run DNA tests on to find out whether they really are Gray's?

Re: The one thing I don't get about this powerhouse

As Windows 7 allows you to upgrade to Pro/Ultimate online, the vast majority of laptops just come with Home Premium nowadays. There's no difference in cost to the end user, it's just a bit more work involved for you and a bit less for the supplier.

"Revenues in the nine months to 30 September were $2.32bn with a gross profit of $864bn from making copyright material attractive. It achieved this without asking for the rules to be bent."

I'm sure that making $864bn profit from $2.32bn revenues is breaking the basic rules of accounting (or mathematics).
