Got a cheap Cisco router in your home office? If it's one of these, there's an exposed RCE hole you need to plug

Enterprise gear is bad enough.....

Their enterprise 'security' gear is bad enough... Quite why anyone would buy their SOHO gear is beyond me. This series has had more holes than Roger federer's fondue supply.

If you are stuck with Cisco for SOHO then at least use Meraki.

Congratulations Peebles. Felicitations Queenzieburn. Openreach is bringing you FTTP (yes, they're real places)

Re: Yet more claptrap

Nope. No Gigaclear in my area. We also get no mobile reception from any carriers at my house as I beleive they try to provide USO via 4g...

Most have it locally. Nearest cab is about 1500metres away. So VDSL speed shows lower than ADSL

Yet more claptrap

Yet more bullshit from Offcom

Whilst great or the places that get it there is still woeful speeds everywhere. I live in the Forest of Dean where all of the exchanges have been converted to FTTC and some areas even have FTTP by Gigaclear (1gb to prem!)

However if you premise happens to be 'direct connection' to the Exchange as you are away from a cabinet you are SOOL. I get 6mb down at best and its awful. Even trying to use the new Ofcom supported USO, Openreach came back with a quote of 100K to convert the line. The local broadband/council quango messed about for years and eventually fobbed me off.

It's easier to move house....

Mozilla and Google blast IE-only Windows on ARM

Mushroom

Whilst I have time for Mozilla (mainly use FF) they are bleating on for no reason. They roll over and take one from Apple when they don't allow another browser on iOS but then bitch about a small portion of prospective Win 8 RT users. To be honest I think MS regret having to provide the classic desktop with Win8RT but have had to as there is just so much to Metroise.

We shall see...

Apple Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Part One

FAIL

Samba / SMB access

I find it amazing how Apples Lion fails (such as implementation of SMB) are getting so little press. You folks in the press really are taking one up the rear from Job's at every opportunity you get (even at el Reg) and are loving it....

Trying the access SMB NAS devices or Windows machines does not work, the SHARED area in finder finds devices and then you cant cannot - even after supplying credentials. Now theres a workaround by using the 'connect to server and specifying smb://etc' which will be beyond the limits of most regular users.

Launchpad is just a dumbass interface, cowering to the iPad crowd

I'm not convinced....
